On a road march you're always reminded of that.. you dont want anybody to become a heat casualty, and every bit as important is keeping your feet dry in order to prevent blisters. A soldier with raw bloody feet can't walk very far, and clean dry socks are the key to preventing it..

So after having it drilled into their heads over and over it became a sort of “meme" or running joke that gets applied to most any and every situation you can think of. Your girlfriend broke up with you? Stop being a pussy. Drink water and change your socks.

Nope. I'm as dumb as a stump. "Gunny Hartman" would have had fun (scratch "would have") with me. I got ripped in basic because in real life, I have a famous military name. But then, the prick gave me a leadership position because I never broke like Pvt. Pyle. Then all 33 other men made fun of me. Especially when I sang cadence.
