Why didn't Generation X have a Michael Jackson/Elvis figure?

Why didnt Generation X have a Michael Jackson/Elvis figure?

The Silent Generation gave us Elvis, and the Baby Boom gave us Michael Jackson, and while the Millennial equivalent remains to be seen (It's between Beyonce, Drake, and of course, Taylor) but Generation X didn't give us a star on the level of any of them. The closest people I can think of are Eminem and Kanye West, but they don't really have the same star power as anyone else mentioned from what I can tell. Kanye has the acclaimed music, and Em has a long career and is very famous, but they don't seem to measure up to Elvis and MJ or even Drake/Beyonce/Taylor.

Why did Gen X not have a major hit making international superstar figure, and if they did, who was?

Edit: Mariah Carey is also a contender for the "Gen X Elvis/Jackson", don't know why I forgot her. She has the hits while Kanye has the acclaim and Em has the sales.
