Why does Laura Winslow gets dragged but not Hilary Banks?

Laura Winslow gets a lot of hate from the fandom for how she "treated" and "rejected" Urkel but didn't Hilary Banks treat Jazz the same way? A lot of people act like dark skinned girls aren't allowed to have "options" or something. Hilary Banks was my favorite character and she was hilarious from Fresh Prince of Bel Air but she was way more snobby and stuck up than Laura Winslow. Hilary Banks was older and richer than Laura Winslow. People would say she wasn't prettier.

I think part of the issue was the nature of Steve and Jazz, but also the ages of Laura and Hillary.

Steve was a dork, but he absolutely adored Laura and he was sweet and polite and she just dissed him. Being a teen, she was as fickle as teen girls are and she, of course, was more interested in the hunkier guys than Steve who she viewed more as an annoying brother almost.

But, Jazz was always a shyster kind of guy. You could imagine him in jail in a few years. Hillary was classy but bitchy a bit. She also was older than Laura, so she wasn't oblivious. Finally, Hillary was beautiful (not that Laura wasn't lovely too) and she could have had lots of guys, so Jazz really wasn't going to make any progress with her.

I miss those shows; I really liked them.

I think because of the different dynamics between the two situations.. The thing between Steve and Laura while it had it's comedic elements, was more of a romantic subplot between the two.. It was more dramatic than comedic many times.. And their situation was more "realistic" with the guy pinning over the girl who keeps rejecting him, and he keeps chasing and doing favors for her..

Hilary's and Jazz's was simply comedic, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously in any way.. Hilary's rejection of Jazz didn't bring about any dramatic tension between them. Plus Hilary's character was painted as a comedically spoiled, rich, not so smart valley girl.. Whereas Laura's was more your cute girl next door..

Laura was awful in general. It had nothing to do with her skintone. Hillary was a gold digger and wouldve looked down on anyone “broke”. Neither were really good people. Hillary was a little “special” so thats why she often got a pass
