They're treating you like that because you're mixed, and I'm assuming you look closer to white than black. Because you're half and half, you have a right to choose either side. But often times in black communities (and I too am black) black women will hate on mixed women and think they're trying to outdo them or whatever, not realizing that they can't be help being mixed and that you can do whatever you want. Hell, even black women who aren't half and half but just light skinned will catch hell for looking a certain way.
Do what you want to do and just know there are always going to be people to hate you.

The only people who get jealous of my hair are older women and girls born with straight hair because when I let my hair grow out and get long I can grow a straight up afro almost because it gets so curly and the curls are very tight.
I've got asked quite a lot over the years who I go to for my perm to which I reply it's all natural.

I can't stand those "Cultural appropriation" assholes either. Want they want is for us to not learn and grow from each other and for us stay stuck in our ethnic and cultural silos. I wish you the best.
I feel your anguish, but no nothing like that although I did suffer from bullying as a kid in school for 3 years, merely because I promised my mum I wouldn't get into fights.
I used to have some black students who dyed their hair blonde. I thought it actually looked good on them.
