I think too many people struggle with loving themselves, because they only see their flaws or non successes

+1 yI think so but the way I love someone or something is to seek to improve it. Like if I love my house, I want to see it increase in value so I clean it, maintain it, make repairs, home improvements. I don't accept it the way it is.
In that sense, I might love myself more than anyone else in the world, since I most want to improve myself. I have my own inner Mickey:

I do have this apprehension towards the idea of conflating self-love with self-acceptance. For example, I quit drinking alcohol last year since I was very discontent with my binge drinking habits. It came from a lack of self-acceptance but with self-love that I decided to quit drinking. If I didn't have self-love and instead too much self-acceptance, I would have just been like, "Whatever, I'm happy being a complete drunk!" So I really think self-love means we always seek self-improvement; at least that's the way I see it.

I never struggled with self-loathing though since I put maximum stock into the idea that people can change, starting with me. So if there's something I don't like about myself, I can fix it in the future. I'm a moving target, not a fixed target, so there's nothing to hate since I can just keep improving and improving.

Also never disliked anything I can't fix since it's not broken. For example, I never disliked my height since I can't fix it, so it's not broken. I only dislike things that can fixed, i. e., broken. And so I can't dislike myself as a whole, since I can always fix it. I'm not going to dislike my house because the lightbulb needs replacement. I'll just replace it. I still love my house.

+1 yI love myself.
I think when I sit back in, say it, or say it out loud, if feels a little odd and weird, because I’m already taken care of myself for I’m already doing what’s necessary to live. Like drinking water, eating giving into my whims and passions. It seems sometimes it just feels silly to say, but yes, I love myself. 🥰31 Reply

+1 yYeah. I know I'm quite different from most adults, but I always tell myself I'm doing good and the best I can. I can definitely say what I've been doing and have done so far is great, even if other people wouldn't consider it as such (because they live a different life). But I love myself and other people.

+1 yNo I don't love myself, but I've learned not to loathe myself like I used to do. I instead accept myself for who I am while working to become the best version of myself.

10 Reply1.9K opinions shared on Other topic. Yes I do love myself for the person I am. I'm proud of who I've become. I have to partially thank my parents for that. They brought me up right. They instilled values in me when I was growing up.

@Skyros It's nice :) life is still challenging but when it's too much I just give myself a break and I don't get pissed at myself for not completing everything that was planned. When I feel better I just keep going at my own pace. It might be a bit annoying for other people sometimes but whatever.
