I don't really have to remember because they remember. People tend not to change in my experience. In other words, the relatives who weren't nice to me or just vanished when I was growing up are the same ones who are shady to this day & will only try and get into my life because they want something. The aunts & uncles who bothered to go to my school graduations are the same ones who have been good people over all the years. Knowing this... i go out of my way to show my nieces & nephews they matter to me. Not that it takes much. I'll travel 3k miles to a graduation, even if it's inconvenient, expensive or whatever. Cause I know that even if they don't realize it now, it does matter.

When it comes to non relatives, honestly, if someone is a major D bag or whatever to me, they tend to leave my life, never to be dealt with again. They go their way, I go my way. No need for keeping a list really. I remember a few of them because it makes for funny stories. But I'm sure I've forgotten most.

Yes, before I was married I had a friend that always had my back. I had a lot of turmoil in my life for a while and he did not abandon me. He died a few months ago. We are both old now but I wish i had told him how much I appreciated him.

No. I’ve always dealt with deep dark stuff alone. it use to make me feel sorry for myself when I was in the thick of things but afterwards it gave me an amount of self love I’ll always be thankful for. Only having yourself and getting through it alone is oddly empowering
