Can smartphones take a hit if something drops on them like a lotion bottle?

Oh yes. My smartphone usually hits the floor! It does depend though on how sharp something is though. I cracked a screen merely walking in to a sharp bit of wall. I hadn't had it very long!

I see you think the lotion bottle didn't damage it because it had a screen protector built into the case?

Let me see if I can explain it a bit better.. You know how you get double glazing windows. Somebody kicks a football at them and it can certainly take a hit, even if kicked hard, but you take a sharp pointed nail to it with a hammer and it will crack? I think the lotion bottle hit the phone level with force, you're ok. but if there was a sharp concentrated point to it, it would likely crack it..
