When you watch a video of someone doing kind work. Many people write ( my faith in humanity is restored) that makes me laugh, what's your reaction?

I usually agree with them. There's so much hatred and evil in the world that is rare to see someone doing something good. When that happens, I see it as a reason to celebrate and it always impresses me.

Humanity is a joke so I just ignore that comment. There’s are nice people and there are not so nice people. ‘Restored faith in humanity’ is absolute bs.

One example of kindness and altruism does not prove anything about “humanity” but it does prove that those traits have not become extinct.

"Restores faith in humanity" is a commonly used expression that goes way back. It implies that you "lost" faith in humanity in the first place.

I never lost my faith in all of humanity because people around the world aren't hive minded. They are individuals. There are vastly different values, beliefs and attitudes. I've seen both good and bad.

Some humans are capable of unspeakable cruelty and some are not. And some are capable of kindness, empathy, tenderness, generosity, compassion, and love.

Acts of cruelty fill me with grief and anger. The things some people do are incomprehensible to me. You can easily read, hear, and sometimes witness them yourself.

But acts of kindness to animals and fellow humans also abound. I have to admit that those fill me will emotion. They don't restore, but "affirm" my faith in humanity.

I like that it is being done, but I do not see rare examples, whether positive or negative, as being descriptive of humanity as a whole and just shake my head at the assumption.

I think it's because kindness is incredibly rare. Especially genuine kindness, the kind of kindness that doesn't have an ulterior motive.

It's easy to focus on the darkness in the world. On the poverty, the misery, the selfishness, and the evil. So to see someone go out of their way to be a good person reinforces hope for us as a species and hope in our fellow men
