Is it true what my friend at work said that the Xbox 360 is so old?

Its still 2 generations behind though and I'm talking release specs. I know it feels more modern due to the slower pace of games evolution and the absurd shelf life. But lets go back to the year of the 360 itself and apply the same logic.

Generationally it seems the consensus is over 2 generations old. Were not there yet due to these super slow console generation cycles. So it would be retro the next console release. So its an edge case if you compare that and you can judge it by the PS1. If the PS1 was retro by the time the 360 came around it would match up. If the PS1 wasn't yet retro but the generation before it was it wouldn't match up yet.

But lets take a look at the actual years, Xbox 360 architecture is from 2004. Now we are 20 years later. Lets apply that 20 years further back and we are looking at the 1984. In 1984 you had the original NES which was 100% a retro gaming console when the 360 game out. So in terms of years what we called retro back when the 360 is out was a same time span as that consoles current age.

So its debatable taking it by years or generations due to how much slower progress has been. I take it by years / architecture and based off of that I find it a retro machine myself since PowerPC stuff is no longer around. Everyone switched away from PowerPC architecture.
