Do you prefer white tones or colors on the interior walls of your home?

My wife and I watched a movie set in America at the turn of the 20th century, at the end of the Victorian era, and it reminded me of how much I love colorful walls and details. They even used a lot of wallpaper back then.

My wife and I bought our own home in 2002 when I was 48 years old. Before then, we had lived in apartments. I was sick of white walls.
One of the first things we did was paint our rooms. Some of the rooms have two colors - one on the walls and a different, complimentary one on the ceiling, for example. We even painted faux texture on some walls. The colors make me sooooo happy. Our dining room and kitchen are warm. Our living room is comfortable. Our bedroom is soothing. Our bathrooms are not austere.
Lighting at different times of the day effects the colors.

I love the various contrasts. It's like the way patches of red, yellow, blue and white flowers in a garden, combined with the green leaves, compliment each other and are so much more delightful.

Have you ever had the opportunity to choose colors for your walls? Would you want to if you could?

When we bought our house every wall with white! Every ceiling was white! The tiles in the kitchen and foyer were white!! The foyer table was white! The exterior of the house was white!! I saw the potential though and it was a reasonable price in a great neighborhood.

Flash forward 20 years. I had a shell dormer and finished the interior myself. EVERY ROOM is a different color. Accent walls. Hardwood floors. Colored carpets. NO crown molding. Colored furniture. Better lighting. I HATE WHITE!! 🛑 WHITE!!

I like color schemes from old Southern plantation houses. The walls are vibrant colors, not pastels, such as mint green or crimson red, but the woodwork is all bright white.

I  love  color, but I don't love painting walls and ceilings. I use a soft, light neutral tone for the entire house, and I have a clean white for the moulding and trim. Then, I layer in color and texture with my furniture, art, textiles, decor, plants, etc. High-effort projects or big-ticket items like a quality sofa are neutral. My favorite colors are a deep, blue-green like a mountain lake, and pops of dark fuschia.

In our place, most rooms are an off grey colour. You wouldn’t really be able to tell unless you compared it to that ugly eggshell white. Our bathroom is practically grey. The guest rooms have an accent wall in a different colour. One is grey with teal and the other is grey with a pastel pink.

Adding color to any room will make the room brighter. Or bigger depending on the color or colors. For a little face lift to a room you can really change it. . in so many way

Our home has muted colors on the walls. The entire place has light-gray-blue walls, with a slightly lighter color ceiling. It makes the place seem bigger and everything flows. Color is added with furniture, plants, knickknacks and artwork.

I prefer off-white in my own home.
My wife insisted upon some garish room colors and some complementary colored "accent" walls in other rooms some years ago.

I hated them from the get-go.
She got tired of them not long after.
We're now back to a creamy off-white on all interior walls, thank goodness.

Some homes are suited to different colored rooms.
Ours is not one of them.
