For us yes at this point? Though at the roots it's learnt and only by what it benefits us with rather than genuine care for another.
In evolution Empathy was not a thing to start off with, everything fends for it self in a survival mode. However many creatures began to learn Empathy could make that survival have more chances.
A simple example if someone happens to share food with you then you live longer, and visa versa.
Make no mistake Empathy is not something born from us because we are inherently good that's not the case at all. Though it's for sure now a natural core trait as it's helped us many times.
Not for everyone but it should be a standard for all of us. and i hope to go to my grave with the knowledge i made a difference in increasing empathy in our world.

Everyone's brain is wired to react differently to different scenarios in their lives. Just as some people are born with less activity in the part of the brain responsible for emotions (the amygdala), and in turn more likely to be killers, there are some that have more activity in that part of the brain and process things from a very emotional perspective.
Empathy is not necessarily a core trait of human behaviour, but it is naturally taught to us based on positive and negative experiences in our lives.
hey, firstly i would like to mention to you about your current age, if correct, heading towards 28, full saturn returns.. who knows maybe this is partly why you're here asking this... are you an empath who is often taken advantage of... are you trying to understand why others can so freely take and fail to be empathetic to others? am i wrong?
I believe it is. Even some animals have been observed to have what appears to be empathy. Humans are supposedly the most highly developed animal and I would contend that the capacity for empathy is one of the very things that makes us human.
I think it can be both it definitely is a core trait
And some people learn it just by watching others go through things are themselves going through things
For me I'm an empath so I read people pretty well and I can see just through their eyes to look on their face if something's going wrong in their life
That is the same time I've seen some angry people that have no empathy whatsoever they just hate everybody LOL
No way.
That is why it is easy for people to say "they care about one side of a conflict" but don't care that iran just hammered israeli citizens with hunddreds of ballistic missile weapons.
There is quite a bit of language associated with emotions so I think you have to say it must be for those word/phrases to exist.
Whether it is very genuine is a different issue.
People without empathy aren't generally liked or trusted. We seem to view those lacking empathy to be less human, even evil, than the rest of us.
we certainly don't act like it... as a whole
Yeah, though sadly there's variables aka why jails exist
No, it's a trait that needs to be developed and nurtured into the human beings from early age as not everyone has it.
Yeah, it is what allows us to be a group species.

feel like i recognize the name from like 4 years ago or more but im also REALLY tired rn so it could be that lol

I wish it were, but thankfully enough have it so that we can have a somewhat civil society.
Yes, it definitely is. But it gets lost sometimes depending what happens to people in their life
If it is, far too many Americans don't behave like it.
It is a learned trait.
