I'm curious as to the depth of the question as hinted at by the asker.
Perhaps I'll find out in an update to the question.
For the life of me, I cannot imagine a connection between the color of a lighter and anything else, up to and including personal preference.

If I need a lighter, I buy what's available.
Sometimes there are color and style choices.
Online vendors have a reasonable amount of color and style choices.
My local cigar and tobacco shops have limited, but nice selections.

When standing at a convenience store counter and I'm in need of a lighter, I usually cringe at what's available and choose one that's the least obnoxious looking to me.

Gold. And yes, it's real gold - a custom Zippo my wife gifted me for my birthday. You can tell because it's already full of scratches, which inf it was gold painted steel it wouldn have.

Where I'm at these are known as cracker lighters, these are the lighters people have when they are down bad or don't have a lighter atm so they go real quick to get a cracker lighter for a dollar, when I used to smoke my lighter was shaped like a life sized cigarette, it fit in the cigarette box and from a distance, you'd think it's just a cigarette, what does that say about me 💀

Eh I felt I needed some "sunshine".
Here almost all of us buy the crackhead lighters no matter the financial status we have 🤣🤣🤣 I have had some fancier ones but oh well, nothing beats the crackhead ones. One that is fancier is a lighter that can be charged with usb. I purchased it cheap but it looks very cool (looked because I can't find it) . Also many smokers here have the habit of "finessing" other people's lighters (yes even crackhead lighters 💀)

Oh that sounds like a worldwide issue, damn lighter snatchers are everywhere, normally they are the reason we have to get cracker lighters cause that's why you don't have a lighter on the next smoke session, people can say what they want about the crackhead lighters, those shits are reliable no matter the abuse they hold strong, and if you don't want them, they self destruct, just slam them very hard on the ground and they blow up, much caution for whoever sees you walking around with a red lighter tho like "Oh God, she's angry! 😫"

I don't smoke so I don't keep any with me. Two of my colleagues have some fancy ones. One has a brass one, old fashioned, big rectangular, heavy. Another one has a similar one but shaped like a deck of cards. You slide one card from the deck and it lights up
