This started life as a cheap light-duty military vehicle - much like the Jeep - in the 60s. Wealthy Arabs started buying them in the 70s and eventually asked for more upscale versions. Mercedes responded, and the G-wagon moved from an entry-level commercial truck to a "luxury vehicle" - though it took 2 decades of refinement before it could credibly be considered such. Of course, this also included a huge price markup too.

In the 90s, celebrities began buying the G-wagon, and here we are. After 40 years, it finally got a real redesign, but even that really didn't change much. It's still a very overpriced luxury "Jeep", but it can fit modern engines and emissions equipment and there are some modern refinements. Still, you could buy a pair of Lexuses for what you pay for a G-wagon, which they could still make a profit on at half the price. So I hope the image is that important to you... Lol.

Rest assured, when you have a family you will need that money for your family, not for a silly luxury car. And the G-class is an absolute money pit.

Looks too chunky, bad shape n heavy is weak gas mileage, miles per gallon.

Better a lighter weight n smooth shape.
