How many of you speak another language and how did you learn it?

Did you learn through schooling or being in another country for a period of time? Maybe a combination of both? Did you teach yourself through books and audio?

I speak fluent Spanish, I basically taught myself. About ten years ago my TV settings somehow switched to the SAP setting. I was to lazy and I guess to dumb to switch it back to English, so I learned Spanish instead.

I can speak Spanish. Took it in high school for four years.

Was it required? Obviously, it's been years since I've been in school. When I was in school, French and Spanish were available but not required, it wasn't required when my kids were in school either. I'm curious if your school requires it. Also, are you glad you studied it? I think nowadays, it's important to know Spanish.

We were required to take two years at my high school. I like it, so I chose it as an elective the last two years.

I am glad I studied it. I will admit that I don't use it. I just hope I don't forget it over time.

It's funny you say that, there's a radio host in Detroit that spoke fluently in Spanish (He lived in Mexico for eight years). He's been living in the US for over twenty years now and said he's forgetting how to speak it. He was asking Spanish speaking listeners to call him so he can stay fluent in it. Interesting.

I can speak decent Spanish. I took Spanish in high school and college, plus I live in Southern California, so I have also learned through coworkers that speak it as their native language.
