I am speaking two languages, German, with is my native language and English.
I started learning English pretty late and to be honest in a relatively short time because I had fun 'learning' it. One of my hobbies is gaming so I spend a lot of time talking and writing with other people, I started a game where not many people would write or talk in German so I used a translator for a long time, douple checked it so it wouldn't be this typical broken English from a translator. 😅
During the writing and hearing people talking it improved quickly. I asked them to correct me when they would see or hear a mistake I made and they did so.
Being able to talk to different people, wich were willing to support, and about topics I find interesting made it feel less like learning.
And of course, I am still learning, I don't think this will ever stop haha
Soon I will have the same situation with Swedish, its scary but I am excited already!10 Reply

Polish, I was born there. German, learned that as child in kindergarten and elementary school while living in Germany. English, learned basics in school and improved due internet use. There are dialects I understand it's Schwäbisch and Kashubian.

That is one of the hardest languages to learn.
There are so many words that are spelled the same, but will have a different pronunciation.
We have 3 different to's, two, to, too.
And the ever popular lay and lie.
Do you lay down or lie down, but lie also means not telling the truth.
Read can be used 2 different ways, I will read this book soon, or I just read a good book, but then we have red, the color.
Lead and lead.
lead can be either the mineral, the bullet is made out of lead, or I lead people on a guided tour, or I will lead you to the store. Hour the time and our. We only have an hour to get there before we start our tour.
best of luck, it only gets worse.00 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yGood luck! I've heard English is the hardest language to learn. Being that we have so many words that sound the same and mean completely different things.
Nonetheless, I speak one language. Until I move to a different country or join the CIA, it's gonna stay that way lol. Too (to? Two?) many other pressing matters in life need my full attention03 Reply- +1 y
English as the hardest language to learn is a myth. How difficult a language is to learn heavily depends on your native language.
English is RELATIVELY easy for speakers of Romance languages and most Germanic languages. It’s bit harder for the balance of Germanic languages (German itself, and Icelandic) and more so for other languages more distantly related to English (like Polish, Greek, Persian, Hindi). It’s much more difficult for languages not related to English and the most difficult is for speakers of tonal languages (like Chinese).

+1 yI speak and write English fluently. I can read and speak a bit of Spanish, just enough so that I wouldn't starve and could find a market or bathroom. I learned despite having one of the world's worst Spanish teachers in the world for High School. She was too worried about verb conjugation, etc., but really didn't teach the day-to-day USE of the language.
Plus, I have to know a few phrases in Spanish and Polish- as well as English- for doing massage. "Where is the pain? Do you ache more here or there?" etc. These specific phrases and a few others, I just looked up on line.
I took a class in American Sign Language (ASL) at our church. Unless I use it every day, I tend to forget it, but I brush up on it every few months, just in case I need it.
