It depends on the city and the area. NYC, Boston and some other historic cities on the east coast have some nice areas. Sadly many of them are not being well maintained though. However the newer cities suck. I think Los Angeles is one of the most bland cities in the US. No culture or character. Just blocks of 2 story buildings and letters on a hill.

Some are better than others, but yes, most are just big ghettos. Just having some pretty lights doesn't make you a pretty city.

no city is fully beautiful, its mostly just a particular area that is great looking. See here in Europe, most cities have a scenic old town but thats just 30% of the city, the rest is like everywhere else. Same is in the US, though still the degree of criminality is still variable

In the last 20 years, US cities went from beautiful to absolute trash. I can't even believe this much change could happen in such a short period of time. It makes me feel like the country is actually doomed.
