hey, true true story. in my twenties, my very recent still friend ex started ranting about bit coin, now if we start at the end, over my lifetime i would say, i would without a doubt of taken profit from any gain via investing back in the late 90s... but swear down my £100 quid and his £100 quid if we had never touched it, which is most likely completely untrue because were working class by the way, now wed be sitting on 400 million between us, now... all things ebb and flow and unless you are of the elite/wealth line you cannot and will not ever be able to invest and ride out the time lines and flows of wealth... like the old school old/new money beings do... my honest advice at this time in human history is, if you can make a safe place where you can provide and farm and feed your family and be self sufficient, make plans... you gonna either live in this realm of future disassociation/transhumanism or opt out and get out... you got a couple of years... place your bets people...
Sorry, a bit late to the party.
But something I've also been wrestling with.
I did actually have some crypto but sold it at a loss. I have my own reasons for that. I have real privacy concerns given how much personal data exchanges expect for you to upload, KYC, etc. This is the real drawback of crypto and at the moment it is making it uninvestable for me.
I do think there is a lot more mileage in crypto. But it is highly unpredictable, and volatile.
The theory goes, you're supposed to invest low, sell high in trading. All this hype, if you invest now, you're investing high. As the old saying goes, the best traders do nothing for long periods of time. They don't get emotionally involved. It's fairly easy to get wrecked and lose some serious money. If you choose to invest. Set a limit and only invest what you can afford to completely lose.
Now people criticise it, and obviously legitimately. However, I saw some figures that someone had used on a video. Basically the average house price in the US in 2018 was something like 280000 and in 2024 it is like 400k odd. In that time 40 bitcoin could get you a house. Now it's 4.5 bitcoin. The other serious benefit of bitcoin is that is that there could only ever be 21 million of them. All the while central institutions are printing money, inflating currency, and making your hard earned savings worthless. It's so immoral.
Also, bear in mind the market cap. It's going to take 10s of trillions of dollars to 10x bitcoin. Where as cardano still has a low market cap it can easily 100x. Still risky though.
exactly, itos FOMO
"Invest" - there's that deceptive word. Funny how they never advertise "Speculate". "Come speculate with me while we dig a hole in the back yard... because there is gold down there!!!". Trust me... we'll be rich.
That... is very different from buying an established business that has cash flow, dividend or a bond that pays. Granted... most of those don't keep up with inflation.
...
This is speculation only... you are hoping the price goes up or you have a way to short it and hope it goes down. That's it. You have no intention of it producing anything for you or paying a dividend nor do you understand the value proposition.
So tell me the value proposition...
I owned it, made some... I still own some and learn about it. I think will go up over time because it is a highly secure transaction... might be useful for governemnt payment transfers. But it is very resource heavy. That means the value would go way up. But... i wouldn't "bet the farm" because it may be worth 0.
$ you are ok losing my opinion. Make sure you know how to hold it yourself and not lose the keys... or etf's. I done both. Everyone starts dumping those etfs, not so sure can get out...
I've not tried to take $ out of bitcoin wallet, supposedly it's possible.
Already been hodling a while but will happily add more as time goes on.
Overall I’d say the trend will continue to be up as adoption increases.

There is no such thing as investing in bitcoin, and never has been. That's gambling, not investing. The risk is extreme.
If you want to gamble with your hard earned money, fine. But don't call it investing, and be prepared to lose it.
If you want to invest, put your money in the bank. If you want slightly higher returns with only slightly higher risk, buy CDs. If you want even more return, with even higher risk, get a nice safe index fund. If you want even higher potential returns with far higher risk, buy stocks. That already puts you in gambling territory unless you really know what you are doing. Now if you REALLY want to gamble, buy Bitcoin.
I'm willing to bet you have no idea how Bitcoin actually works. If you don't know how it works, like REALLY understand it, then stay the hell away from it. Never ever put your money in anything you don't understand.
Correction, while I said YES, it is yes I already have invested.
I don't intend to add to it at this point till well into the next bear market and it looks like it is at bottom price. That is just my strategy.
In 2021 I listened too long to booster channels and even bought some close to the peak because the expectation was it would go higher still but instead it crashed. So I would urge it is too late to FOMO in now as a newbie.
Bitcoin is volatile but it can give 2x/3x gains and is almost certain if you buy in the depths of bear market. I wouldn't consider alt coins at all.
Ethereum was well regarded but has done badly relatively to bitcoin. I'm glad to have offloaded at almost what I paid for them.
i think it's just getting closer and closer to it's eventual collapse. like any shitcoin in existence, it will clollapse some day cause there's no way to counteract deflation. so the value will go up and up and up till at some point the threshold of getting into that market gets way too high for newcomers and that's where there's gonna be that sudden crash we saw with every shit coin. the only difference between a shitcoin and bitcoin is the massive numbers of investors. but that's not gonna prevent a crash. it's just gonna delay it.
General rule of investing...
Buy low, Sell high.
Bitcoin is already high so buying more us not good investment.
Plus, Bitcoin is not very liquid. It's not easy to convert it to actual currency.
does anybody really think that any of these investors could sell their Bitcoins and get real money for it? Just try it if you don't believe me.
I dabbled with it a fair few years ago and did well and know a couple of friends who did very well from it
@jamesgoldman were you able to cash in your chips for real American currency? Or did you have to take Bitcoin Lucky Bucks. ?
I lost my access but only spent £10 so didn't pursue it, my friends cashed out one bought his house from it
Yeah this makes me nervous. Do you feel it was worth the purchase?
I turned that £10 into £400 inside 2 months, the ripple (XRP) is worth about £3,000 now not that I can get to it
My dads very wealthy and tells me to avoid this shit completely. I first found out about Bitcoin in 2013 with my friend who would’ve thought you just needed to buy them lol. When it drops down I might buy a bit and forget about it. Way too late to get rich off it but you could make some good returns. Yeah
i'd wait until after the crash. Everything is surging based on Trump being elected, but nothing positive has actually taken place yet. The price hikes are based on "what might happen". When reality sets in, and the world isn't instantly fixed when Trump gets into office, the prices will come back down to earth.
Why do people always want to invest in things when they're at the top? That's not how it works and you'll lose everything.
The larger the risk the more the money.
Not everyone loses.
Finish school kiddo you're 18 you should've learned this already
Bitcoin probably too late like Berkshire Hathaway A stock
I found out the ripple (XRP) I had from years ago and lost the key to is worth about £3,000 now
Bitcoin is worthless.
Any currency that has no physical copies in circulation is worthless.
As the old goes...Fools And Their Money Soon Part.
It’s always been a risky thing to invest in because it always goes up and then goes right back down so unless you have a crystal ball or plenty of money to lose, I really wouldn’t do it
Sure! What could POSSIBLY go wrong? I got a nice chunk of the recent Hawk Tuah crypto this week! Can't wait to retire!!
Wait for the crash. Never buy high; always buy low. Right now other crypto currencies are your best bet if you want to buy something. Bitcoin should be sold off now.
I wish I was able to farm crypto when it first became a thing. Just like tesla stock
Crypto is snakeoil, pure and simple. Crypto's value is based on the "greater fool theory", which inevitably has majority losers.
regardless of presidents (nothing to do with it), cryptocurrency has always been risky.
Only invest what you can afford to lose.
Nope. Still a scam.
