I used to, but not now. Because in Asia (any part, be it south, east, North, west), knowing proper English is usually said to be a strong indicator of smartness. Don't know why they are so into romanticising their prior masters (💀). That's the reason why my parents are making me study in a British council school in the first place.

This year I actually have few friends in school who are from UK or stayed in US or UK so my accent and vocabulary kind of changed when I started hanging out with them. I started having this slight British vocabulary and accent but it's not like my grades are increasing... I always scored 90%-95% in my tests and still do now but I'm more confident speaking with people.

But few of the very smart kids (the type of kids who can probably get into Havard or IIT) have the accent of brits. Others with Indian or American accent go hard with their grades too.

But in the end, I still bag full marks in English tests with my Indian accent. So I conclude it doesn't matter.

Anyways, the kids with the least marks in English score the most in maths or science and that's what appealing to Asian parents.

No, I don't. It's a bit of a stereotype. But there are some British dialects on the other hand which sound horrendous in my ears lol. If you can't understand anything what someone is saying, that's just awful. Also there's a dialect and then there's leaving out most letters which sounds awful.

Uhhhhh cognitive abilities? No.

I can see elegance or arrogance in how a British accent can sound, and that will trigger a feeling for me, an atmosphere. But I know it's just a tribal sign, and me reacting to that, appearances produced by a social class or an internalized accent based on upbringing.

Reasonably speaking, I know it's not related to cognitive abilities.

I like the British accent but I often can't differentiate between written American and English. Rubbish/garbage etc.

When it comes to spoken language its one of two extremes with English either Doctor who kinda genius or bo'ohw'o'wo'er.
