I think that would depend on the roles I was cast for. At my age now, no, I would not be a good actor and I wouldn't want to be (*). I'd be a better screenwriter or director though.

(*) Part of the reason I wouldn't want to be is that, at my age, almost certainly, I would have some significant disagreements with the director or cinematographer about various scenes. So, I'd need to know that the people I worked with would have a similar vision. All too often, I see a movie now and see wasted angles or wasted opportunities or shit dialog. Great directors work with great cinematographers and composers for the soundtrack to establish a universe and the emotions in it. For an actor to flourish, that and the dialog need to come together. Most movies now are shit, so I would not like to be an actor. In the 1970s, maybe.

Not really. I am just old and learned to appreciate cinema in ways that I didn't when I was young.
It began about 40+ years ago when I was watching a "Sneak Previews" (Siskel and Ebert) episode on PBS in which they were discussing "pan and scan", the technique used to make movies (which I widescreen) for VHS fit on what then was the standard 4:3 aspect ratio of television. VHS makers either sold "letterbox" versions which had black bars above and below but otherwise had the whole widescreen movie (albeit smaller) and/or the standard "pan and scan" versions. They illustrated how, with pan and scan, you lose so much of the movie - it ruins it.

After witnessing that, I began to think about movies differently. Especially since most movies made after the 1970s were more-or-less shit. They may have been blockbusters, but little artistry and nuance.

It also helps when you are old because you've lived life more and you can appreciate the experiences of the characters better than when you are young and with no comparable experience to the characters.

That was a Siskel and Ebert 1990 episode. I was 27 when I saw this.

Yeah, I wanted to be an actor not to necessarily be famous, but because I loved it..

Not at all. I had a friend on here that was actually really good at acting but never wanted to go further than Community theater and a couple paid roles. Which I can understand, the odds of wasting your life chasing a dream, in this case anyway, are A LOT higher than actually achieving it. I just wish she would still do it for fun, because she really enjoyed it.

I’m sure it can be a rigorous path and could be really demoralizing if it didn’t work out. I guess it depends how much a person wants it and what they are willing to sacrifice

I think that was her thoughts. She would have loved it but at the same time, she really wouldn't have cared for the lifestyle. I think as she got older, her priorities changed. She was more interested in having a good stable job and being a mom and a wife. I just thought she'd still be active in it locally, because she really loved doing it but I guess you can outgrow and lose your passions.

Yea it makes sense. All the other things become so time consuming and exhausting that it can be hard to find the time for things like that as well

Well, I can cry on command sometimes but otherwise no. I have massive stage fright and I hate the way I look so seeing that on the big screen would freak me out lmao
