What do you think of 'baby strollers' for dogs?

I see these more and more in the streets: people 'walking' their dog in a special stroller resembling a baby stroller. And a growing trend in fancy dog clothes. I think animals should be treated as such, not like miniature versions of human beings.

Any thoughts?

I do find this off-putting. But for some people who have no children and will never have them, their dogs ARE substitutes. However, I do know people with extremely old dogs who can no longer walk, and the person wants to get out and take the dog. Voila! Stroller.

As for dressing a dog. There are some dogs who don't have enough body hair for extremely cold weather such as chihuahuas, so a dog sweater is appropriate. However, high-fashion "outfits" are ridiculous.

I find it very sad that people cannot connect with other humans who offer them stimulation, challenge their assumptions, opinions, argue, support, comfort them. Can take them to the hospital in an emergency.

A dog is a companion, but not a friend. You can't call your dog and discuss your depression with it. You can talk at it, but you can't get support, suggestions, advice. When you're sick, your dog cannot go to the store and get some juice or drop you by some soup.

You can't share dinner and a movie with your dog. Pets are limited in what they can do for a person. But interpersonal relationships are broad and as limited as you allow them to be.

I think people are involved in strange relationships with dogs/cats because they are people-avoidant and don't seek to get help to change such behaviors. This might work for some. But I consider it unhealthy.

As lovely as pets are, they aren't people and cannot replace them in your life.

I'd go as far as to say it's a welfare issue because your denying it's ability to display natural behaviour. The biggest cause of behavioural problems in pets is owners not letting their dogs be dogs.

Honestly, who am I to judge? Hell, it would vary from dog to dog then owner to owner.

Like if the dog looks like they are enjoying / the owner knows the dog loves it then by all means do it ! If the dog is not happy with it, the owner is very controlling then I’d just quietly judge keeping it to myself not making it obvious.

Owners need to treat their dogs right and treat them as beloved pets not objects to show off / act snooty with, though 99.9% of pet owners know this and take care of their pets right which is a good thing.

As for the clothing, some dogs live in colder climates they werent bred for/dodn't evolve for, so clothing can help in those situations. Some dogs also just like fancy things.

I worked at a doggy daycare for a while and here’s what I learned in relation to this:

The pavement can actually burn a dogs paws if it’s hot outside because the pavement has been cooking in the sun all day so the dog/baby stroller things and dog booties could actually be quite useful if you want to still take your dog out but it’s too hot for their paws (different breeds burn their paws at different temperatures).

Some dogs actually do need sweaters if it’s cold outside, like chihuahuas, Greyhounds, or Great Danes.

Lmao, dogs are meant to walk. They like exercise and sniffing everything. It’s entertainment for them.

sure... but there are many other legit reasons as to why they could use a stroller

dogs get too tired sometimes, they get sick, sometimes the concrete/asphalt is way too hot for anyone to walk on and so on

sometimes, some dogs do wander and escape... so you never really know

also... pets are no regular animals, they're family... not wild things, lol

I've had large disabled dogs, elderly dogs. They have their benefits. I used to bike with mine in a wheeled tow tent. It allows them to get out through parks and bike paths. Mental health refreshes and helps the body too.
My little dog comes with me on my motorcycle occasionally in a hard backpack like a helmet with a huge window. Sometimes I come home and she demands a ride. She gains fanclubs at stoplights.

Not a fan of cutsie crap though. No tutu's here.

Legs are made for walking just like tails are made for wagging. As for dogs if your dog is unable to walk taking your dog for a walk in a stroller would be a wonderful idea.

Maybe I’ll buy a stroller & a goldfish & take jaws for a walk.

Some clothing does genuinely help like some dogs are warmer climate breeds so in the winter the extra fabric helps them stay warm but I agree sometimes it’s just for the owner to feel fancy an like their dog is treated better just because they’re dressed fancy, I think if it’s needed then it’s appropriate but if it’s not it’s obviously unnecessary and possibly harmful maybe if the dog has a fur type suited to winter dont further dress up up as its surely gotta be uncomfy

i think it's cute. but it makes me a bit sad because it is likely that that dog is old/older and can't walk as well. but fresh air and new scenery is always nice to provide your dog.

The main reasons for walking a dog is exercise and so they can “take care of business.” I would not want to clean up later if they did that in a stroller.
