I’m going to repeat what you probably already heard “don’t blame the dog blame the owners.” I think that’s 100% true and unfortunately because of this breed’s size and strength a small attack can lead to a fatality. I own two small dogs one of which I rescued from an abusive breeder which made him very nervous and “aggressive” towards other dogs/people. While training him to walk we passed a pitbull and I had to stay far to the left because my dog was barking going crazy, but the pitbull was calm and did not even look at our direction. He walked right beside his owner just like my other dog does with me. He is now fully trained as like my other dog and if I wasn’t dedicated and committed to training him he could have caused a huge problem which would probably be overlooked just because he is a small breed. I think after one incident it can cause fear forever towards that breed which is a real shame as it isn’t always their fault.

Pits were actually known as nanny dogs because they're extremely caring by nature. A dog reflects their owner so if a dog is violent then chances are their owner made them that way and is an asshole. As for the dog attacks, it's because they're big strong dogs who can do a lot of damage. Smaller dogs are actually far more aggressive than pits, but no one makes a big deal out of it when a chihuahua bites them. I'd rather have my kids around an American pitbull terrier than a chihuahua or dachshund. I've been attacked by those tiny monsters plenty of times

I cannot show you chihuahua fatalities as I've stated before chihuahua's aren't as harmful. I do know someone who lost a piece of his ear after his dachshund ripped it off

I disagree the majority of pit bulls owners are normal people, animals have different natures and the pitbull is naturally is more violent sure you can train them to be fine but don't be silly and say a child next to a pitbull is the same as next to a corgis that is just false.

@Josht13 Nah, I didn’t deny you’re more at risk around a pitbull than you are around any other breed. You should be cautious around them, and if you ever own one you should take training them very seriously, but like I said not every single one you encounter is going to eat you alive.

If you adopt a pit bull, or other strong and powerful dog, you take on the responsibility to ensure that the dog is under control at all times. Many people are surprised to find out that they can not handle that responsibility.

What’s worse is the people who willfully teach a dog to be aggressive. Very few people actually need an aggressive dog to protect themselves or their property. And if powerful aggressive dog gets loose, tragedy can ensue.

And a 2011 study, also in the Journal of Forensic Sciences, found that "vicious dog owners reported significantly higher criminal thinking, entitlement, sentimentality and super-optimism tendencies. Vicious dog owners were arrested, engaged in physical fights significantly more than other dog owners."
