Frequently. I tend to see the best in people. But I am learning to be careful about that now.

I get it, it's a good trait to have but for the right people, it can also make you look over a lot of things that should be kept away from.

I usually fall for guys like this. They are gloriously imperfect lol. But I see such potential. Not for me, to change them, but in that they themselves would (should) be happier if they just do some simple things. But they don't and I get frustrated.
I can only put up with someone complaining about their life - with no effort to change it - for so long.

Examples.
My ex husband. Drunk. He couldn't sleep without a bottle of wine every night. If he had more than 5 beers he wd wet the bed. I did change him enough to be that and not worse than that... but he also didn't want to progress career wise. Stuck same job from 16 to now (57). Supermarket attendant.

Second boyfriend. No job. No money. Running around stealing and selling drugs but a) if he got a job even a part time job we would have been pretty well off with my income. And b) he wouldn't be owing people money and getting beaten up. And c) like why did he wanna stay in that lifestyle?

Third recent boyfriend. Criminal record. No driving license. No job (he said recent). Stealing things to pay his way. He did have welfare. But also a gambling addiction. Now I tried saying if he stops gambling or sets a limit and save, get a driving license, it opens up more opportunities for a job. As he claimed to want a job. But he wouldn't take the necessary steps. After boyfriend no2... I got out of this relationship faster.

Guy I'm in love currently- has bad job, bad relationship. Is depressed and unhappy. I want to show him how a good relationship can be and support him in finding a better job and learning to enjoy life and be happy. But he won't do anything about his problems.

So.. there u go. I have terrible taste in men and fall for the underdog !

Even one of my FBs is studying and has opportunity for a bright future but is throwing it away on cocaine and alcohol. And I'm trying to help him see he don't need that stuff to have a good time. But again, I can't change people. Even tho he says he wants to quit it all.
