Many things are 6 inches and nobody really seems to care about the size of whatever you mention. I have a ruler that is about that size that I log around when going to class. It is handy as it conveniently fits in my bag and flexible enough not to cause any damage to my notebook.

In Summer, I often buy a small bottle of water that was about 6 inches in length. It is equally convenient to put in a purse and can easily be disposed of.
