What was an example in your life of someone crossing the fucking line with you?

For me it was this one time when I was probably 18, but maybe 19. I knew this online friend I met from online games since like... I'm not totally sure, but likely between 10 and 12? Late elementary school or early middle school, basically.

But either way, I was friends with him for like a good 6 to 9 years or so before he crossed the line. Not sure of the exact numbers but I knew him for a decent while.

We didn't talk super consistently or anything, but we talked more or less on and off from time to time.

When he was younger he was cooler, when he got older he became kind of a dick, but I was willing to overlook it.

He was the type of guy to banter a lot, and I mean A LOT. And he NEVER really took anything serious, made everything into a joke. In moderation this was fine, though there were some times he was kind of hurtful. Ultimately though I saw him as a guy without any bad intentions, just someone incredibly goofy and perhaps not the brightest.

One day though...

He invited me to a chat room with his other friends. And they were basically just talking about random shit and sending a bunch of random memes and videos at the same time. And some of them also had their mic turned on, and they were just shouting random stuff really loud and singing purposefully bad. Needless to say, kind of chaotic, lol.

Then I made some sort of joke. Don't remember exactly what it was, but probably related to anime or fictional characters. And the people in the room acted "offended" by it, typing in all caps and everything. And then I got kicked out. I assumed they were joking.

The next day I asked him if I could join the room again, and he said: "No because everyone in the chat room thought you were pathetic, dumb, mentally ill, and retarded."

I somewhat took this as a joke. But suddenly I had people from that chat room sending me death threats and all sorts of shit.

Then I found out he know and told them they could.

I stopped being friends with him.

Had an admin coworker who was really into me that I wasn't attracted to in any form. I was in a particularly dark place and losing my mind. She made it seem like she was trying to comfort me but she was really just dismissing everything I was saying and tried to make things sexual by sending me videos of blowjobs while I was having a mental breakdown. Tried to take advantage of me while I was vulnerable. She flew across that fucking line and I stopped talking to her. In response, she tried to slander my name at the company but utterly failed because people there know me better.

That company lost all of their contracts and have had a hell of a time trying to recruit since I took the liberty of exposing their horrible practices to the media. Karma is lazy and sometimes you need to make it happen yourself.

A weird uncle with a history of trying to con people out of money. There was a funeral for a relative and he went up when people say nice things about the deceased. He used it like a commercial to advertise his BS business. After that day I ignored all messages and calls from him. Some thought I was too harsh but years later he tried to con a little girl in the family who had her own small business (think of it like lemonade stand type stuff but online). Lol. He claimed he wanted to make a big order ($100) but said he needed a loan from the girl's family to pay. So they did that (ha ha). Then he demanded a refund and threatened the little girl directly that he would sue her if she didn't pay him. Totally batshit insane.

in 7th grade a girl shoulder checked me in the hallway so i shoved her into a locker and she hit her head hard, so it started bleeding

same stupid fucking girl a few months later slammed my friend's locker for no reason (they weren't friends), so i slammed her locker too which hit her hand hard. i didn't know THAT was gonna happen, but i didn't really care lol

People insult me all the time online, but I laugh my ass off at it. I will give them points for at least trying to offend, bless their little dark hearts.

Haha, probably the best way to approach these situations. Taking them seriously is probably the worst thing you could possibly do. So much better to laugh your ass off at it. And yeah, it can be funny to see their failed attempts at offending. Lol.

Ouch. So sorry you had to go through that. And I thought the story in my original post was bad. Very few things are worse than SA. Only death/murder pretty much.

Your "friend" treated you like shit, when you hoped he'd have your back.
It crossed a line, because it mattered to you.
It had an impact, that likely caused long-term effects on you too.
So I'd say your story is just as bad, and I'm sorry you got treated that way. 🤍

Oh my god, thank you so much for saying that! The reason I say that is because A LOT of people go like: "Really? You think that's bad? Way worse things have happened to me and many other people. And here you are complaining about this trivial thing?" Enough people have said it so now I say that as a sort of disclaimer to let people know I'm not saying my struggles are equal to theirs.

But you are right! There are many different types of struggles, struggles which may affect different people differently depending on how the person is: how sensitive, if they already have mental illness, if they have depression, etc.

But yeah. I'd say our stories are equally as bad but in different ways. Your story is probably more relatable for most people since unfortunately a lot of people go through SA, while the circumstances in my story are more oddly specific and personal. But yeah. Hope we both get better, haha.
