So basically what are you driving now, and what is your dream car?

I’ve got a Honda Pilot right now. It’s a 2013 but it’s the Touring Edition so it’s got some nice amenities. But it’s on its last legs, and I’ve been putting off getting a new one for over a year now, lmao. I can afford it but I hate the actual parting with the money. And I like to go straight cash so I don’t have payments to worry about, but that just makes the price tag that much more intimidating, haha. About to get a new one, hopefully before summer, so I’m looking forward to that. Trying to decide between a Ford Bronco and a Toyota 4Runner. I had been leaning towards the 4Runner, but they’re kind of expensive for what you get. The used Broncos seem a little cheaper than the used 4Runners. I’ve always wanted a Jeep Wrangler, but have heard bad things about modern era Jeeps mechanically, and I HATE unexpected trips for repair, so keeping those to a minimum is high priority for me. I trust Toyota and Ford much more. Actually have heard some recall stuff about Fords recently, though, so I need to research a little more. I don’t really want a white car (again, the Pilot is white), but if I got the Bronco….. I kind of want a white Bronco with the license plate “AC N OJ”, lmao. I think that whole chase is why Broncos disappeared for 20 years, they had to rebrand😂

Dream car…. hmmm, I’m not a huge car guy, in the sense of knowing all of the different fancy cars, etc. I kind of just know what I like when I see it. So I don’t know that I have an ultimate “dream car.” I want a car that I’m not embarrassed of, maybe even look cool in, but it’s also not going to be my personality. So no Cybertrucks, lmfao.

Range Rovers look nice but I’ve also never been in one, so I can’t really go with that. You know what I love though? Those old Jeep Wagoneers from the 80s with the wood grain side panels. I saw a guy with a refurbished one and complimented him on it, which I don’t usually feel inclined to do. That’d be pretty tight. Or maybe an old 1969s surf Woody, haha. I don’t even know what kind of cars those are, but I’m just a sucker for wood grain😝

When it comes to jeeps and trucks your honestly better off getting an older one they were built a lot better and to actually last. And older ones have the plus of you actually being able to work on and fix them yourself rather then have to take it to a mechanic.

Hubby had a 4Runner for 16 years.! He loved it.
Then got another used 4Runner… we sold it…
He really liked Toyota. Used still can run well.

We like the Lexus for the cool seat features 😂
Runs really really smooth.

@Phoenix98 Yeah, that’s what I’m hearing, particularly with Jeep. I guess Jeep was bought by maybe GM or Chrysler or something, and there was a decline in quality. Meanwhile Jeeps from the 80s and 90s are still holding up, with maintenance and some replacements. “They don’t make ‘em like they used to”, and all that.

I’m actually dumb as hell with cars but I want to learn to do some of the more routine stuff. I can change my lights out and all that, but that’s where these modern cars suck. Every car the last 20 years has gotten progressively more difficult to just change the headlights. I had my mother’s Cadillac ATS for a year or so after she died. Literally had to be taken to the mechanic to get the headlights changed, not just accessible by putting the hood up. You had to take the fucking bumper off, that’s PREPOSTEROUS🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

@Staximus that’s actually so much cheaper than I’d have thought. My old man is still alive, he’d definitely give me the stink-eye if I didn’t get something recent and bought what he’d see as a toy, so this one won’t be for me, but I’m encouraged to see that they’re affordable. That’s a beauty🥹

@midnightmoon05 yeah, I got a 4Runner as a loaner, older model with a million miles on it, but I liked it. The interior is a little more no-frills than I’d like, especially for the money. But I love that rolling rear window, haha, and it’s just one of the few SUVs that still remains true to the boxy look and hasn’t tried to go all aerodynamic. 4Runners, Broncos, Chevy Tahoes, GMC Denalis, the new Wagoneer…. but for price and quality purposes, I narrowed it down to the 4Runner and the Bronco. Broncos are awesome to me because they’re like a Jeep Wrangler but better. 4Runner doesn’t have the convertible-roof versatility, but the rolling back window somewhat negates that. Also trying to decide if I can be a top-down driver, like the reality of it, not the fantasy, haha. Definitely need a test drive.

But yeah, all I’ve heard are good things about 4Runners, and Toyotas last a long time, so it checks a lot of the boxes for me.

Well if you want to learn how to do stuff with your vehicle defiantly get an older one they won't have all the fancy computers and gadgets newer ones have but it'll be easier to actually work on it yourself.

Cars now a days are over engineered and there is so much crap crammed under the hood that half the time you can't even get to what you need to get to in order to fix a problem.

Over the past six months I’ve been expanding my “how-to” book collection from a thrift shop, and I managed to get both “The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Auto Repair” and “Auto Repair For Dummies” (“Hey! I resemble those remarks!”😝), so there may be some hope on the horizon. Not sure what edition it is though. The most recent edition is probably just a pamphlet, lmao

I have a 2019 Ford F-150. I bought it new and got a good deal on it. It is set up nice for what I need it for. I do not have little kids anymore so the extended cab make a good lockble storage area and still has fold down seats for future grandchildren. The only off roading I do is go to the beach and this truck does the trick and I can haul a lot with it. I bought a cap for the back. It has a V-8 so it has good acceleration. I had a couple of Chevy Tahoes before this but I like the truck better.

The problem is laziness, I can make the money if I get off my ass. I would buy a late 40's or early 50's General Motors fastback sedan and actually make it fast. Basically keep everything looking old but new engine, suspension, brakes, frame, and a roll cage in case a tire blows out when I'm going 150 or some idiot speed. I have a Mitsubishi Outlander, Honda ST1300, Suzuki DL650 and Honda NT650 as well as a Renault Trafic van.
If I could have one I would have a early model Subaru Imprezza WRC car and/or Mitsubishi Evo 10 though maybe an earlier model Audi Quattro from the 1980s. Motorcycle would perhaps be a Rally Raid type one as long as I was actually using it for that purpose.
