Any mechanics or car enthusiasts here?

So, i sorta inherited a 12 year old Cadillac. It did recently pass inspection. It's sweet. But does need things. Shocks or struts which are expensive. Luxury cars have expensive parts. My father was driving it and he recently passed away. He had taked about a $100 a month extended warranty or something that would cover everything. But we never got that info from him. And when he first passed away, my mother said it would be nice to still see it.

I have a small suv which I've been leasing and was thinking about buying. It's 3 years old.

The cadillac has all wheel drive and long. My little suv doesn't have all wheel drive.

I really like my little suv. I've leased a number of vechicles, and it's one I really wanted years before I got it.

Older cars are better, i know from experience since i daily a 1978 mgb. I dont know about a car from after 2000 though, parts for newer cars are really expensive and they are more difficult to work on. Older cars generally have more available parts for a cheaper price and they are simpler to diagnose problems with. This is my 1978 mgb by the way 😃

You should check all your paperwork and/or call the usual insurance providers for this existing policy. If you could use that at least you have a chance to repair the Cadillac at relatively normal costs. But as a daily driver, your existing car sounds more practical.

Since she doesn’t want it, it would be best for you to keep it since it’s already paid for. Getting work done on it is cheaper than buying the suv. 12 years old is not that bad.

It would be good to at least try it. And if the Cadillac doesn’t work out, you could always find another suv later.

True. But there is equity in the suv also since I leased it for 3 years if i buy it. I think I am starting to lean towards the Cadillac maybe thinking about money.

But with money, I don't think it is as fuel efficient. Oil changes are more expensive too for it.
