If someone asks you a stupid question, how do you respond?

If somebody surprises you with a stupid question, how do you tend to react?

I don't suffer fools gladly. First I tell them it's a stupid question, and then if they still push me for an answer, most likely fits of psychotic rage (not really sure why - I'm generally an extremely peaceful, easy going person).

It happens a lot in job interviews unfortunately, where I've been asked questions like "If you were an item of confectionery, which would you be?" (and no, I wasn't applying for a job that had anything at all to do with confectionery).

It also happened just today, when someone from the jobcentre asked me a series of very stupid and completely irrelevant questions, and then wanted me to "roleplay" - by that point I was already fairly aggravated, and refused, explaining that I was not looking for a career as a professional role-player, but they failed to take the hint...

E. - I have not been stupefied yet in my 30 years. I may have had some eyebrow-raising questions, but how do you learn anything if you can't ask direct questions?

Stupid is much too subjective, just like weird.

I teach college students, so I'm used to stupid questions. The problem is I'm not quite patient, if not at all. I am also a fast thinker, so I'm not OK with repeating myself over and over again.

Anyway, to answer your question, I'd say

If I'm in a good mood, relaxed and the like >> I'll try hard to be nice and answer the question.

If I'm in a bad mood >> I won't reply.

I don't really believe there is a lot of stupid questions out there to me just don't ask me something I just gave you an answer to and we'll be OK lol, I accept silly questions, then just answer em all silly or sarcastic. One thing I can tell you  because I'm dirtybikegrl is that stupid hurts, lol.

Sometimes if it's really extreme, I'll say something like "Is this a real question?" Or if it's truly offensive, I might voice my opinion about that. But I try to be respectful and helpful. People aren't born knowing things, after all. At least they're asking.

Honestly, it depends on the question. About 50% of the time I'll answer with sarcasm, the other 50% will be a legit response. I myself sometimes ask obvious questions, and then work it out a couple of seconds later, not a big deal really.

I worked at a clothing store. And people always asked the dumbest questions! And in my head I would have these smart ass answers and I would just have to hold them in. Hated that job.

I chose A but if I don't give a sarcastic response I usually ignore the question. Sometimes people genuinely don't know but I can always tell if they know their question is stupid. Stupid questions are annoying!
