So when was the last time you swung your leg over a stile?

Aug. 2012, Meg the Welsh collie, my constant companion while in the UK, and I would on most days walk down Ipswich Rd. to Combs Ford, past the chip shop, and on to the church meadow. There were sheep pens there with no sheep, so we would go inside one with a pile of rubble in it, I 'd sit on the rubble and roll a cig with licorice paper, a menthol filter, and Cutter's Choice tobacco while Meg crouched in the tall grass playing spot the dog (her massive ears would give her away) after which the tennis balls would come out. I do miss Miss Meg.
Probably a month ago or so, I’m not a fan of having to traverse the mud pits caused by the rain, or dog owners that don’t pick up after their pets (trails covered in droppings).
Did enjoy the adventure when younger of climbing over stiles and trees, I think people were far more considerate and disciplined back then.
As to the euphemism, earlier this week or weekend depending what counts as getting a leg over, otherwise anytime in the last couple of weeks depending on what meets the bar.
I love your cheeky questions Poppy.
I helped my friends, victims of the Southern California wildfires, recover possessions and clean up debris numerous times in the past few months.
Until they were torn down, we all had to repeatedly climb over the remainder of the perimeter fences that fully burned yet remained standing.
I two leg side swing jump. To catch the animals that aren't dumb enough to be contained by them. And recently.

That must be around 40 - 45 years ago, in the '80s, during a walk in the countryside somewhere in the south-east of France near the Cevennes. There was an official small country path that had been taken over by a neighbouring owner of a grazing area who didn't want people to walk past. Obviously he had been forced to build a (not very confortable) stile. My wife and I did got our legs over without problems, to face then some gentle cows looking at us with curiosity ;0)
Not very far from Brussels I've seen a very few of those stiles, but had then not to get over them. All, that one in France included, were similar that the one in the first picture.
@stratford Depends what you're meaning actually, but climbing over similar stiles would still not be a problem ;0)
I thought you were talking about one of these.

When I was younger I could hop over these things pretty easily. I would probably fall on my face today.
That's a turn stile
There’s a similar issue in the US. I don’t remember the exact quote. However, an engineer said that the primary problem they encounter with designing bear-proof food containers and waste receptacles is the remarkable overlap between the smartest bears and the dumbest people.
This was a serious quote in a serious article about a serious issue. And i laughed for minutes upon reading it. I still laugh whenever i remember it.
Yeah! The only way it could have been better is if they actually had video of people failing to open the receptacles!
I imagine some real life version of the classic “The Far Side” school for the gifted comics panel!
Not seen one of those in years. Though I do have to get my leg over my gear lever when I park my car in the very narrow garage I have, though I have to use my hand to get it up at my age I'm not as flexible some times.
Don't really have those in my home country New Zealand, but I do remember them when I worked/lived in the UK for a few years.
Never got to get a leg over on them though !
The only time I ever encountered one was while hiking in Ireland with my wife. I think that was in 2006. And yes, we swung our legs over with no problem.
I live in the city It’s been a long time you have to find a country boy that lives in the country
Can you move this to a better section? I tried to put it in other but gag had other plans. Thanks
I last got a leg over at about 10pm last night. It was quite the ride.
@Nikki1989
That's not quite what @purplepoppy was asking! 🤣
I took my young son to Pinnacle mountain in Little Rock Arkansas and we walked up the South side.
Once my son saw we were higher than election lines he got scared. I told him we will only go as far as the summit. He learned that day where is the summit.
Once we got through big bolders covered in ice we saw a trail that walks up and down the mountain. So we went down the trail. We get to the bottom and now we are Mike's from tge car.
Not a thing in the US. I've never seen one. I've always just hopped the fence without a stile. Much faster.
Last time I went hiking. I think last month
When I was in the UK like 6 ? Years ago. Don't get them as much here
The last thing I got my leg over was my ATV.
Monday coming down the track towards the campground
I normally need a partner to get my leg over - would you be able to help?
Never. We have other similar devices, called cows gates, like this
Can't see the picture. Is it like a grill on the road that animals Can't walk over

@Maybe_Maybe_not. Thank you.
Thought those were to prevent cyclists/bikers getting through.
I've never seen or heard of that. Pretty ingenious.

Not since I was a kid.
