Why have older generations become so fucking jaded?

Millennials and GenZ are the punching bags for Boomers as well as many GenXers.

I straddle the line of Millennials and GenZ. I am a 1994 baby. I have held 25 jobs since age 15. I am now 30. Although my career has been tragically turbulent, I have been passionate about careers ever since I was a young child. I was a boy scout, fire explorer (comparable to a junior firefighter), and received my emergency medical responder certification while in high school.

I endured all the red tape, the post-9/11 overprotectiveness in the public schools, the 180-day school attendance mandate, the common core curriculum, the vast mountain of homework each night my parents could hardly help me with, the generation of frivolous lawsuits where teachers didn't even want to give you a hug in fear of being accused of something or sued, a rule in middle school where we would be punished for talking in the hallway between classes during transition, and all this other bullshit with the lies told to us that if we worked hard, graduated, and pursued post-secondary education, we would be able to live our white picked fence middle class life just like our parents. This couldn't be farther from the truth.

Today, only 33 percent of 30-year-olds are homeowners. Those with bachelor's degrees are having to resort to low-skilled jobs because they are unable to find middle-class employment. The tech industry has been obliterated. Tech worker unemployment is 7.6%, higher than that of an art history major. Rent is astronomical. Essentials like groceries and utilities are expensive. Less marriages are happening. Younger generations are not having kids of their own. Many are having to move back home with mommy and daddy. This is a catastrophe!

My son is a. year older than you and has a good skill set of working with his hands on electrical and plumbing. He also loves music and has done sound for a few films and been a sound worker at Jazzfest setups.

He's moved out West and has been hired at a university as a maintenance assistant. This plays to his strengths. It's a union job that he'll be vested in in five years if he does well. It's taken him several years and false starts to find this kind of job. He had to move elsewhere and extinguish some bad habits that lost him a similar job: showing up late.

You have a lot of talents under your belt. Are you playing to YOUR strengths? Looking for jobs that fit your strong list of skills?

Every generation has problems finding work. I'm still working at 69, and lemme tell you, people think of someone my age as dead and doddering, while I'm energetic, experienced, full of life, interests and talents. I have a bachelor's and master's degree: one in journalism, the other in creative writing.

I'm trying to get a job in remote customer service work. So, don't think you're the only person suffering. Some of this is economics. In my case, ageism. There are so many reasons why one person or group of people don't get jobs.

Just have to keep swinging and take what you can in the meantime.

Well, everyone after the birth control pill is part of the problem as far as hook up culture, almost everyone being a slut and or man whore. 2000 on have become obsessed with tattoos and piercings and unnatural things on your body, in your tissue.

They didn't make the laws, do gooder politicians did but "no fault divorce" has made it to where everyone can just unilaterally bail on a marriage the instant they suddenly say they aren't "happy" as if all marriages don't have rough patches... of course you get get alimony from the other person even though only YOU want the divorce and file for it. Even if you are a cheater. That law was around 1969. So the BC pill, no fault divorce, sexual revolution all kind of came about at the same time.

Now, I think 10% of women between 18 and 30 or so are sex workers on OnlyFans.

So, pretty much anyone maybe growing up in the 90s and 2000s has been responsible for total degeneracy in society and families, childbirth, marriage just literally going to fucking hell.

Now the current generation is the byproduct of the decisions of older generations. They didn't make the rules but they are running with them because they don't know any better.

Society still preaches everything is about YOU. How you feel. Just seek fun and pleasure and whatever you feel like 24/7. How dare anyone put any responsibilities and morality and duty and honor on you. Sex? Just do it with as many people as you want. No consequences. All is fine. You want to be a sex worker? Perfectly fine. How dare anyone shun you or look down on you. Go be a sex worker. WHATEVER you feel like... DO IT. Marriage and family and duty and honor? Oppression.

Just drink, fuck around, get tattoos and piercings, party, get an abortion if you get a pesky baby, never marry, just do you till you die. If you do marry, divorce the moment you get bored.

Post 1970s and really kicking in, in the 2000s.

That's what older generations do. We got ripped apart by our parents generation and older. However, my first house was only 2 times more than what I made in a year and I don't think that's even possible now. I know immigrants that think the west is too expensive and are moving back their third world or developing countries. My wife is from SE Asia and every year we travel there and I've noticed more and more Americans and Canadians in their 30s are moving there and working remotely because they can't get ahead in their own countries. They only make $40-50k a year but they can live very comfortably for $1500 a month.

I think it has a lot to do with your screwed outlook on life. My nephew is in that age bracket he has multiple handicaps mental & physical. He could sit back & pull a disability pension but he choose not to. He lives on his own works all the hrs he can get & pays his rent & utilities. Even with that he still manages to put money away for his future. Maybe you should stop feeling sorry for yourself & get off your ass & get motivated to make something of yourself. Don't hate on me I'm just stating the facts.

I have held 25 jobs since age 15. I am 30. That means in a span of just 15 years, I have not been able to hold down stable employment. About half the roles I have briefly held, I have been fired from. My hard skills are exceptional. My soft skills and interpersonal skills are terrible in a workplace setting. I have no problem initially getting a job. I have issues KEEPING a job. There is a difference.

My most recent employer interviewed candidates for over a year, and when he found me, I aced the interview and was told I was "his guy". He boosted me up just to terminate me 9 months later.

I have Medicare, my one and only health insurance. I must protect that with all costs.

It's not the whole generation only a select few. In your case it sounds more like you are the problem.

My kids all have good paying jobs. Most of their friends do as well. However, many of their friends are in the same boat as you. They are college grads but are working in retail or in other low paying jobs. They do not seem to know how to fix it. I know that what they majored in makes a difference and those with business or tech degrees make out better. Also the ones that went in the trades are doing well. One of the kids that majored in Philososophy is a VP at a local financial institution so it is a crap shoot

As I said, I have had 25 jobs in a span of 15 years. I remember working 96 hours straight as an EMT, being woken up at odd hours of the night to run emergency calls and interfacility transfers. At age 30, I have almost nothing to show for it. The only 2 real assets I have in my possession (my car and an older RV) I am still paying on, and the bank recently threatened to repossess them.

@IHaveRespawned Truthfully, having 25 jobs in 15 years is a big red flag if I was looking to hire somebody. I do not know what the problem is but I think that having a spotty employment record is not good.

Often, I am fired for obscure reasons that employers are hardly ever transparent about. I know 2 of those jobs I was fired for some incident outside the workplace that was completely unrelated to my job. Others, they danced around their reasons. I think, bottom line, my soft skills suck. I have exceptional hard skills and talents, but when it relates to working in a team environment I do not do very well.

When I was a lifeguard at age 16, I kept confronting the managers on duty for failing to carry their 2-way radios on them. If I am the only lifeguard watching the indoor pool, it is paramount for my safety and the safety of my patrons that I can communicate quickly in an emergency. In addition, I was a strict rule enforcer and was reprimanded for clearing the pool during a severe storm where debris was slamming the windows. I will call out anyone for being a fuck up. It doesn't matter if it is a supervisor, coworker, or patron. Sadly, despite taking my job seriously, I was warned if I received one more complaint, I would be fired. I quit effective immediately after that. This is just one example.

Life was simple back then. Now everyone is glued to their phones and make life all about working and making money. No one is getting married much, people don't take responsibility for their actions, less babies being born i blane feminist. Even though I've seen very disgusting woman who are sexual abusing young kids more often. Its just upside down.

A lot of it is that they are sick of seeing the emotional/mental weakness and incompetence in such a large percentage of millennials and genZ.

Maybe it's the fact life was so much better 40 - 50 years ago and this is pretty fucking disgusting nowadays. You can't imagine how much better people behaved towards one another then. Cool, and kind we were.
