Are you holding onto it as your last vehicle? For the features? Aka "it's still somewhat modern, while its somewhat old" - nowadays they're all button starts. Basically all
- 9 mo
I see - no offence by asking your last car - I'm just observational that "you're 71" lol
- 9 mo
I hope it continues to serve you well, if that's what you want
- 9 mo
Those 6 month or 12 month services oil etc π keep those tyres/tires well checked and replaced - enjoy
- 9 mo
How are you finding your retirement years? Who knows if I'll ever reach my 70s and in your luck of fitness and still active, sharp as a tac/tack) thought?
- 9 mo
Retiring was fantastic. I was so glad not to have to go to work every day.
My wife and I both receive Social Security, I have a pension, and she still works part time as a self-employed hair stylist and photographer. We own our home and have money being managed in an IRA that increases in value.
We have some fruit trees and veggie gardens.
So we are managing to pay the bills and have fun.
I was lead guitar and vocals in a rock band from 2010 to 2020. The covid mandates put an end to that. So I'm going strong.
My wife is healthy and I feel great. Knock on wood. My only problem is, a few years ago I developed glaucoma problems in my right eye that I am managing to keep from getting worse. Part of getting old. But, thank goodness I still have 20/20 vision out of my left eye and don't need glasses. - 9 mo
I see. Did you retire at 65 or 67 or earlier I mean, regardless of Covid, or did you just retire because you already had reached the age? All good americanism is different than here lol π enjoy social security. So if I can ask a prickly - you not a fan of politics aka - as a retiree - have you been an ignorer of politics, a Scrooge , or a CareBear - aka - democrat, Republican, independent, swinging wildly or even ignored ignores ignores π€
- 9 mo
I guess I'll see how I go in the future. I'll be quitting gag to enjoy more time away from screens and savour my own eyesights eyes ππ
- 9 mo
I retired as soon as I was old enough to receive Social Security at 62. Then Medicare kicked in when I was 65.
I follow world events very closely. I wouldn't trust a politician or corporate media if they told me that water was wet. But I have really good sources for information and also read nonfiction books on historical events, including current events..
I don't identify with labels like left, right, centrist, Republican or Democrat. Again I don't trust the political parties enough to be loyal to either one or to any politician. I just choose the lesser of two evils. I'm not influenced by consensus, either.
I develop opinions on individual issues and can modify or change my opinions as I learn more. - 9 mo
Thanks π I'm more a democrat π yet imagine more like a "controlling strong leader" rather than party consensus - aka 'a left wing democrat Trump" it's a shame that you know, the Democrats if I was American, haven't had a "strong, centralist, left wing leader" ; you know the good kind of "strong man" of the Left kind β€οΈβπ©Ή

@Phoenix98 do you enjoy or prefer key start? ποΈ Are you an avoider of modern vehicles *to an extent* ? Aka "what's 2000 today in 2025 was someone's 1980 in 2000" aka : they want to be modern, yet not too modern. Aka there's sub categories of folks out there - nostalgia, practical reasons, poor, certain features, or until the vehicle gives up ππ
- 9 mo
@Phoenix98 I guess due to the advances in things that I may not like or like, while I never have been a stuck on view one way or the other, I do prefer I guess vehicles "1990s plus - Asian etc auto vehicles with an airbag or two and regular gasoline / petrol)" up to the mid 2010s. However note as I age and time ages, my views may adapt further, to keep with the times, yet at the same time, the times I don't like in all aspects ππ
- 9 mo
@Phoenix98 there's an iconic movie where it's the fairly early 1990s and the guy says to the guy in some backwater town you may know the film π₯ π½οΈ "all these new fangled cars and their onboard computers" (lol) it's like Jeep Grand SUV and it's that film where the truck driver always takes hostages for ransoms in some middle of nowhere town in America. 1990s movie. anyways - to think that back then, as now 2025, they thought or figured "that's" considered a big deal having "an onboard computer in a early American 90s spec Jeep - crikey* - I mean you know laughter I mean you know ππ - let alone the 2015- 2020s cars that actually have a huge dashboard screen now and even bigger in electrics the screens. I mean automatic transmission - and other fuel injection systems - I'm sure that's computer based - ha! π€ͺ
- 9 mo
Ahh the days of the carburettor "carbi/carbie"/ lol and no I don't say a doll π lol Barbie lol
- 9 mo
Lol yeah and with all that computer related stuff under the hood it's so blessed cramped under there that you can't reach anything what's so ever. And the dashboards and consoles just have so much stuff on em /= it's like why do I even need this much information.
My silverado has fuel, battery, oil, speed, gear shift, temperature and that's pretty much it don't need much more then that. - 9 mo
@Phoenix98 and that's what you and I would see eye to eye on π "basic spec model" - I for one don't care for fancy features - however each country will vary, and year and make and model. I could say here in my country, this 20xx car is perfectly basic for me - but in your country a similar or same you'd say "oh that 20xx" is not for me aka not for your liking πππ§π οΈπ§and yet it's those differences I guess man. It's a global world and global cars - yet there's some differences
- 9 mo
@Phoenix98 glad we came to some form of agree ππ― lol. Say, do you care much for airbags and seatbelts at least and a comfortable car? Power steering and air con at least? Aka 1990s plus cars. The Japanese really came into their own by 1998 +
- 9 mo
Or for a poor man, at least by 1991+ or 1993+ on.
- 9 mo
@Phoenix98 that's what it was called Breakdown 1997, starring that guy that overused actor Kurt Russell, the all American type guy π οΈπ§π
- 9 mo
Kurt "the all American male" Russell man's man, actor π€£π
- 9 mo
Mhmm for sure different strokes for different folks. I don't actually have airbags in my truck that wasn't a standard feature until 1995. Obviously seatbelts are a must though and power steering is nice. Do not haver air conditioning though which is whatever meh just drive with the windows down.
- 9 mo
@Phoenix98 do you think you'll venture out any further to get that airbag and air conditioning? Or will you hood onto 1991 for a while yet π
- 9 mo
I'd have to replace the steering wheel for that because I have a aftermarket racing steering wheel. I'm 99% sure it doesn't have one anyway it doesn't look like there's anywhere it could fit one.
Air conditioning eventually yeah it's expensive though. And I am definitely holding on to the 91 silverado I'm restoring it slowly over time, yeah I ain't getting rid of it.
