If we suddenly go back to stick-shift cars and trucks today, could you drive?

I've driven manuals as least as much as I've driven automatics. I used to race cars, and I worked in a shop, so knowing how to drive stick was pretty essential. I've also taught a few other people how to drive manual.

I drove a BMW M3 on track for a few years, and could do a high performance (heel-and-toe) downshift. For those who don't know what that is: entering a corner requiring a downshift, you depress the clutch and brake, then roll your foot to the right to blip the throttle to increase the engine speed, then shift into the lower gear and release the clutch. It is necessary to blip the throttle because at the same vehicle speed, then engine has to turn faster in a lower gear.

As far as I'm concerned, if you can't drive a 'stick', you can't drive a car. in my opinion the license should be taken away from 80% of Americans.

It would take me awhile to get in sync, but I could pull it off without too much damage to the transmission. Had to learn when I was in Civil Defense unit in our town a few decades ago. But, don't worry- automatic transmissions will stay.

I got my driver’s license on a stick-shift ;after a little adjustment period, it wouldn’t have been a problem.

Not a problem. I have driven 4-speed, 5-speed and 6-speed manuals.

Yup. Driving a car or truck with 3 pedals is not very hard.

Not only could I drive it I prefer it I drove a manual gearbox vehicle for 12 years I wish I still had it
