My neighbor's wonderful companion animal died last night suddenly. He was so very spry and healthy. How can that happen?

He was 11 years old, very lean muscle mass, very active, and they walked him every day, and I had walked him myself many times. I can't imagine Thanksgiving in their home now with Obie gone, as he would get up on he couch with me and lay on my lap when I petted him.

We have all, at some time lost a wonderful companion and it leaves a large hole in my heart to have him gone.

The SYSTEM put this question under "sexuality' for some idiotic reason and I changed it to other.

I'm so sorry you are no longer going to enjoy his friendship and love towards you and your neighbors.

It's always so heartbreaking to lose a part of the family and your life.

I would imagine that animals pass away suddenly just like people do. Usually it's because of heart failure. There's always what we call a silent heart attack which has no symptoms before it happens.

My precious little kitty, 😺 🐱 Abby was with me for 13 wonderfully enjoyable years. She's been gone since 1999, but I still have a hole in my heart that only she could fill.

Her pictures are in almost every room in my home. I think had she been a human she would have been a model, because she actually posed for me to take a picture 📸 of her. My sweet little baby girl❣️Mommy still misses you. RIP Abby girl. 😿 😽

Unfortunately animals can't tell us somethings wrong and it's often too late when we find out. Some diseases kill without warning or there's lots of poisonous plants out there. That chocolate bar he snaffled unnoticed could easily have killed him.

Sorry for the loss but with animals you've just got to accept you can do everything right but it isn't always enough.

Sorry for the loss of your sweet neighbors delightful companion. I will not know why our beloved animals have to leave so suddenly. They are simply gifts in this lifetime. So delight in them every time you get a gift of their friendship and unconditional love. :) :) :)

My baby Vinnie I said goodbye to last month at 15 years young. My heart aches for his presence again.

An eleven-year-old dog of a medium or large breed? That's about how long they live.

@slatyb He was a medium size dog. I asked the question the way I did because I had a 'mixed' breed dog about the same size and she lived to be 17, although she had many health issues that I had treated with my vet

There are a lot of reasons. Most large dogs won't live past 15, regardless of health.
