What hard-won skill took you the longest time to truly master?

I've been pretty good at most things I've done, but some more than others. Like I was a decent carpenter, but mechanics came much more easily to me.

I don't know if it's considered a skill, but I suck at languages. I'm trying to learn Japanese. I spend my time reviewing what I was already supposed to learn, so I don't have time to learn new things. I'm barely keeping even. It's not sticking, so I need constant repetition or I forget it. After six months my vocabulary is only about 120 words. I'm BAD at learning languages. I make myself keep going, but I don't know how long I can do that. I've gotten pretty good at hiragana, but since only a small amount of Japanese is written in hiragana, that doesn't do me much good. It's no good at all for speaking.

I was damn good at electronic theory, but I suck at troubleshooting. That means I'm worthless at doing anything practical with it.

Selflessness, unconditional love, forgiveness. I've yet to receive a diploma. I'm still working on it and will continue to work on it as long as I'm on this plane of existence.

Learning how to set boundaries without feeling guilty…

For a long time I thought being a good person meant always being understanding, always giving people another chance, always trying to fix things.

It took me years to realize that protecting your peace is a skill too… and it doesn’t make you selfish.

As for a physical skill it’s dancing… Looks effortless when someone is good at it but it actually takes years to learn how to control your body, timing, and movement so it flows naturally

I can't honestly say I have a hard-won skill that I have mastered, but I have written several things and completed one book I wrote a long time ago. Is it any good? I'm not quite sure since I have never gone through with editing and publishing it and it's honestly not a book I would want published anymore. What I am working on now, I do want to get that published by sometime this year or beginning of next year.

So if I had to choose one skill, it would be writing that I'm on the verge of mastering.

The skill of just allowing myself to be me and I'm not a master at it yet but luckily I have the rest of my life to keep working on it so maybe I'll get it right.

Other than that I'm pretty good at wine making but the hardest part of that is just waiting for it to age! 🤣

I can run for hours and not get exhausted. Took me a long while to build up to that.  I had to train myself physically and mentally to be able to tolerate it.

Not that I have even come close to being an amature yet and as someone else has already said, knitting and crocheting.

It's funny, I used to crochet alongside my grandma when I was a kid. I just cannot remember how to do it. I've tried YouTube tutorials and I can never get passed a chain. Same with knitting.

I also used to cross stitch with my grandma and now today, I have zero sewing skills.

I would say talking to people cause I used to be so shy icould not even say hello to people so for me learning to talk to people was the hardest things I had to learn

Writing repair estimates on damaged cars. It took me a good 5 years to become a true master.  Playing guitar, although, even though I got good, I never became an actual master.

Well none I've mastered but becoming a skilled handyman in the past 9 years. I used to let others fix things until that got too expensive.

Probably driving. I cancelled my first test because I was so dissatisfied with my progress. I started again but I only passed the test at my second attempt. Now I think it's bizarre that I struggled at something so easy.
