Actually untll corporal Punishment was banned in the UK the legal premise was ,"to remove what is evil within the child." You weren't correcting behaviour but rather physically exorcising a demon out of the body.

While I am religious, I would not accept that. People are responsible for their own actions. The devil can't make someone do something, we have free will.
