What is something that happened to you in high school that still has you somewhat traumatized?

When I was a junior in high school, I had a HUGE crush on a boy in my grade. Although we didn’t have any classes together, I would still find a way to talk to him every day. Things seemed to be going great. He was always nice to me. Fast forward eight months. One day, I was on the phone with a friend of mine who told me the truth about him. He really couldn’t stand me and was annoyed by me. He had been making fun of me the whole time behind my back to his friends. I was angry and devastated. I confronted him and life went on. Now, as a 36 year old woman, I’m still slightly traumatized by that. Every time I become interested in a man, the thought pops into my mind “is he just pretending to be nice and is really annoyed by me?” and “don’t talk to him too much or you might get on his nerves.” Thoughts like that. I’m slowly getting better, but as you can see, that experience REALLY did a number on me. Anyway, that’s my story. What’s yours?

There have been times I talked shit about girls who I liked because I didn't think it was going to work or I was being lazy with my words or because I didn't have the life experience to realize I was effectively being peer pressured into thinking I needed to save face over something stupid and probably meaningless.

And I'd realize it and feel so ashamed of myself because obviously that's wrong on so many levels. And ironically you end up with egg on your face anyway which is what I deserved and because I had that mentality I grew from it eventually.

And traumatizing Is a hard word for me to think of because I had a lot of bullshit happen to me before then. And there's a lot of stuff that happened to me that most people would probably find traumatizing that to me was just normal life.

Like for example when my parents were getting divorced, my mother was trying to argue in court and also get financial aid by claiming I was basically stupid.

And so this counsoler at my school who went through a lot of trouble over the years building trust with me administered a real IQ test. Like he went to a special school for it apparently it's a very specialized thing to have a license to administer one that actually means something.

He spent the whole time tapping his pen on the desk, he pretended his watch wasn't working and used a ticking stopwatch when I had to arrange these very oddly shaped blocks to copy intricate patterns from a book.

So I took the test once. And he says he messed something up. So I came back another day took the test again and he looks at me and goes "I need you to get a lower score"

Which the school had its own reasons I'm not going to get into but if you're a teacher in a high performing district, the reason you're thinking is probably why.

So I have trust issues 😂

Obviously you're not the only one, i probably too made fun of girls who liked me at some point... probably... probably...

But i think of it differently. He did not traumatize you to create what wasn't there. Was more like downloading a software update from the spirit realm, you were born to experience it and grow strong enough to overcome it. Also known as karma and human evolution. ㅤ

To answer your question? Hard to remember any notable negative changes in high school. Everything there I already experienced before that. I guess if i had to name something, it's that in high school girls only complimented or smiled at me if they were horny, they lost the ability to be just friends, and now i have struggled to stop assuming that anyone being just nice always wants more.

Are you sure you could trust your friend's asking him that question (what he thought of you)? I'm just wondering why he treated you nicely, and thought this instead. Maybe your friend didn't want you wasting time on him, or something else.

The only thing that traumatized me, was that I was once followed by this guy, or attempted to be followed by him. This was after school, I knew that he didn't live in my area and so he didn't have to go where I was going. I noticed him behind me a few people back, his eyes on me. Then I lost him purposely in the crowd. The next day, he told me, "What you did yesterday was obvious". I didn't answer, but looking back I should have told him I don't appreciate stalkers. I wasn't terrorized, but it felt uncomfortable.

I had a similar story. There was a boy in my class at primary school and he was the first to approach me the first day of school. And I saw him as a friend. On Valentine's day of that year I bought him a box of chocolates and after that he became my biggest bully. I developed a complex over my curly hair because of the things he said and did to them and it's because if his behaviour that I couldn't look at myself in the mirror for many years. How has that affected me now? Well I will never be the first to appri or make the first move because I understood young that I cannot afford to expose myself too easily with anyone especially the opposite gender.

I think a lot of this went through that

You have to understand rejection Is a good thing Because look what happens after it You get something even better You just have to realize it

What happened to you is wrong but at the same time what you went through was a learning experience that not all people are being honest with you and we're not being honest with ourselves because if you would have just Shrugged your shoulders and the true feeling was you were more embarrassed I think and that's what screws us all up is we allow that embarrassment to affect us instead of letting it go and understood the next thing that happened the next thing the next person was even better for you some things are not meant to be but we look at them wrong and in a different way instead of looking at it positive we look at it negative

I was rejected Many times I was totally embarrassed walked away With a smile on my face Cussing myself Looking around see who was watching

And in the day I let it go because it wasn't meant to be because the next thing I tried it turned out to be for the best it was great it's one step in front of the other each one is a stepping stone to become who you truly are to this day

I hate that you went through that But I found the positive in that story And in my own way it's a beautiful thing even though I didn't go through it I see a beautiful person That walked through it And lived it You have to do the same thing If you can

I hope this makes sense to you it did to me but thank you for the story I appreciate it because it is a reminder of greatness of good things to happen

and we saw their study books and encyclopedias, and the pictures of actual STD patients...
