What makes someone truly self-righteous? How is self-righteousness different from simply being confident, intelligent, knowledgeable, and skilled?

Self-righteous people have narcissistic behavior and are narcissistic.

• They lack empathy
• They think that their feelings, thoughts, and actions are always justified.
• They believe they are superior and can judge and belittle people.
• When confronted, they will rewrite the narrative and become the victim and make you the perpetrator.
• Believe they have the moral high ground often acting with a hollier-than-thou attitude.
• They reject new information, outside influence and criticism.

There's more than just what I listed, but this gives us some insight to their personality.
