For sure. The fossil record is far from complete and we literally find new species regularly. We have rediscovered at least a half dozen species that the “experts” once reported to be extinct.
Especially now that there is responsible research supporting genetic memory, it’s going to be difficult to decipher with certainty the difference between ancient humans’ memories and their fantasies.

There’s no real evidence for it, but it’s possible that a whole faerie world exists parallel to our world. It’s not impossible.

Ogres may have been unusually large, ugly humans like Andre the Giant. Mermaids are out of the question, unfortunately.
