Do you think mermaids could really exist?

Question

This video has been circulating on the internet for a bit. This is the most recent video of a "mermaid" sighting, that I know of.

Not saying that I believe in mermaids because it's hard for me to fully believe in anything without proof/experiencing it for myself, but being that the majority of the Earth's ocean hasn't been explored, who's to say that there aren't "mer-people" lurking around down there?

It's been part of ancient lore for such a long time now that folks really do believe that they existed... and there's a grain of truth to almost every one of those stories, just a bit of extra detail is added to make the creatures seem larger-than-life.

The mermaid concept tends to capture the imagination more than most of the other stuff... Possibly as part of evolution something that looks like a mermaid existed for a while... And if you listen to some of the shrill shrieking types of people out there who go on and on till you just want to give in to their demands... it gives one reason to believe in the piercing siren song described in the Odyssey...

So the possibility is out there, though proving it in 2024 is possibly not something we can do.

No! They obviously do not exist! I think when it comes to that video, Occam's razor really needs to be considered. We KNOW that the myth of mermaids cones from drunk Caribbean sailors from prior to the 18th century seeing manatees and thinking they were beautiful mythical ½ fish, ½ human female creatures. So what are the odds, that sailors in the 1400’s through the 1700’s saw manatees, thought they were beautiful half fish, half mammals, AND that actual mermaids also happen to exist. Versus this just being a clever AI? Eh ¯\_(ッ)_/¯ 🤔

I hope this helps illuminate some logical pathways to the truth of the matter

Manatees are the closest to mermaids you’ll ever get to. They are like a land mammal, but with a tail for swimming, see?

Yeah so, mermaids may not exist however Manatees are closest to a mermaid.

P. S. In folklore, mermaids would crash ships by distracting them with their calls/songs, so maybe it is a good thing these fish people don’t exist.

That looks like a professional mermaid in costume. But I think it’s possible that mermaids could be real, they just won’t look like Ariel from the little mermaid lol. They’d probably look less humanoid and more fish like, no beautiful locks of long hair either…

There are women who do this for a career. The Silverton Casino in Las Vegas for years has had a big tank and women who swim around as mermaids entertaining the kids.
