We keep cats as pets today, but during medieval times the term "cat" was a term used in contempt of a person.

Copycat is an American English derogatory term that emerged in the late 19th century Maine, when Constance Cary Harrison wrote in her memoir about a copy cat, anyone that writes something that's already been printed, and nothing to do with our pet cats.

Apparently because we now have domestic cats and kittens, we have observed them sometimes imitating each others and humans behaviour.

My cat must have been watching me adjusting my barometer, and tried to do the same bringing the barometer crashing down to the floor.

I laughed but my cat dived under the sofa, because it thought it would be in trouble.
