What was your first lesson in death?

I recently had a brief chat with a woman who was leery about watching “The Sheep Detectives” with her kids because she wasn’t ready to expose them to “murder”. Spoiler alert, there’s a murder in “The Sheep Detectives”. Ell oh ell! That’s not really a spoiler. It’s literally central to the plot and you can learn as much from the trailer. I recommend it. It’s cute.
Anyway, when she said she wasn’t comfortable exposing her kids to “murder”, i interpreted “death” and had a litany of arguments bubble up. I held my tongue because they’re not my kids and it’s not my business.
I feel like it’s a good topic for a question though. I grew up on a farm. We had pets and livestock, and we hunted, fished and trapped. I learned about death pretty early on. I wasn’t desensitized to it by any means, but i did learn that it’s a simple fact of life.
Centuries ago, multiple generations of families used to share the same one room home. Sometimes everyone would go to sleep and then wake in the morning for chores to find that grandma or grandpa had died next to them in their sleep. Life went on. Kids are more resilient than many people give them credit for.
Do you remember your first lesson in death? Are you willing to share it here?
