What handgun should I get when I create my own armed security company?

I am going to be the sole guard in my own company. I may hire others later.

The one you shoot best with is the one to choose. That isn’t being glib. Go to a range that has rentals and try a bunch out. If you join a club they may have a bunch of weapons to try.

Maybe you will like a Glock 9mm perhaps a G17 or a G19, a S&W M&P 9mm (I have this one) or.40, maybe a 1911 .45 (I have this one). Try them, practice with them then select. Borrow weapons from friends too. It could be a Walther PDP Pro (I have this one) with a Holosun.

The point is you won’t really know until you try some. When you hire people, let them select as well as they may hate what you picked. Do you want 17 rounds or are you okay with 8 rounds? lots to consider. What type of holster? Don’t get leather as it binds and your weapon can get stuck.

Then you will need to select ammo. Try a lot of brands and types with the pistol you selected for ergonomics. Different weapons like to eat different ammo, even the same brand and model weapon might like different ammo meaning they are materially more accurate with specific ammo and you have to find which type, brand and grain.

Will you use hollow points or Full Metal Jackets (FMJ). Hollow points will hurt them bad and less likely to over penetrate so you don’t hit someone behind the target. But in a lawsuit, hollow points may be said to be a vicious choice by you.

Don’t get a revolver although I use that for home defense with speed loaders as they go bang every time as they say. They are very dependable over many years of no activity in a gun safe. They can stay loaded for many years and work just fine. You should change out a semi-automatic magazine after a couple of years because you shouldn’t trust the spring at that point no matter what others say.

Glock 17. Never fails and can hold a lot. Standard mag is about 17 9mm. Probably never have to reload if you need it, even then you can keep a 25- 30 round mag as your reload. Even if you dont get a glock there are handguns that run 9mm glock mags like the ruger XCM. Ruger make good products like the the LCR revolver which is a good handgun and back up. I gave my wife a pink one. I used to use a ruger security six revolver for home defence, until I had to use it and police lost it in the evidence room. Now its a glock 17.

Buy a decent pump action shop gun or a 9mm carbine like a ruger pc carbine that takes glock mags or an AR15. Keep it in your vechile or under your desk at work.
