How have the things you wished for throughout your life so far changed over the years?

Do you still wish for the same things you wished for 5 years ago for example?

Yes, I think we're supposed to evolve throughout our lives. It's part of growing up, gaining experience, and finding our path. But the rate of change is not linear. Early on it's a steep learning curve and massive confusion. It slows down from there. And by 50-60 you wake up to find you've been on your path for a while without any fanfare. It is the sum total of your choices in life. The rate of change, the point where it slows down, and the point where you reach relative stability is different for every person based on our capacity for self awareness and introspective thought. Some get there in there their 30's. Some people never get there, it's just confusion for them until the day they die.

A big thing for me was rejecting materialism and embracing minimalism in my 40's and early 50's. That was sort of the pinnacle / end point of my evolution. I'm calmer now. Not so much in a hurry for stuff to happen.

My parents choice helped me embrace Minimalism like it was second nature. I'm glad to hear you chose this path relatively early on too. It's such an important mindset to have if you truly want to have a calmer and happier life.

Pretty much! So far, I've gotten almost nothing I've ever wished for!! I came close a few times but it never completely came to fruition. It's like wishing you could have a specific girl as your wife and the mother of your children while you watch her REPEATEDLY choose loser after loser over you, when you happen to be exactly what she's said she's been looking for her whole life.
Or, you're trying and trying and trying to get a job you've wanted your whole life and are perfect for and you watch the boss constantly choose people that couldn't care less about the actual job and are only in it for the money and, in a month or three, they're gonna quit and get a completely different job just because they're gonna be making more money!

I used to spend so much time wishing my husband’s mental health would get better… or that he would at least recognize that he was struggling and get help.

Now, I just wish for lasting peace and happiness in my own life.

the general idea is the same but the detailed vision has been tweaked over the years.

Now I know that nothing is worth doing if you have no one to share it with.

When I was in highschool I always wanted a Corvette. Today I would maybe rent a Corvette for a month and take a road trip and that would be the end of it.
