A small thing, but the end of the summer period. I live in a town on the Mediterranean coast. This year has been the warmest period since the last 180 years. "Summer" has stretched its scope and is now spanning 5 more weeks, from roughly the middle of May to the middle of September. We haven't seen a drop of rain since April. The Mediterranean sea is 5 degrees Celsius warmer than it should be. Crops may be the worst in decades.

Maybe a small thing for us humans, but a tendency that could have large consequences.

whats your life like on the coast

In a certain way relaxed, as we tend to grant importance to work as much as to leisure. The end of the work day is not the end of the day, if you see what I mean. I had a completely different experience while living in another country, where your week. Monday to Friday, consisted of rushing to work in the morning, working all day and then rushing back home.

In another way it is stressed, as the tourist season (mainly July and August) makes life a bit more difficult: constant traffic jams, empty shelves in the shops, people lining up for a table in a restaurant... but we make up for it during the other 10 months of the year.

Good stuff in September?

• New car.
• Locked in a heating oil hedge at $2.849 per gallon this winter.
• The heat and humidity has finally broken and we are headed into fall weather.
• Just closed the pool yesterday. Freedom!
