I don’t accept that the meaning of words changes just because people are too dumb to use words correctly or too lazy to find more appropriate words for whatever they’re trying to say.
I think the one that bothers me most currently is “cuck”. Cuckold is derived from cuckoo, the bird. It refers to unwittingly raising another’s child. This is because cuckoo birds lay their eggs in other birds’ nests for the cuckold parents to incubate and ultimately raise. Most birds being bird brained, they don’t realize that they are raising an interloper until it’s too late. It’s actually very sad because hatchling cuckoos will throw other eggs and hatchlings out of the nest so it has no competition for resources.
Young people are using “cuck” in a context far outside the actual definition. Meanwhile they fail to use it in proper context and instead call cuckolding “paternity fraud”. Which is semi-accurate, but since it’s literally NEVER charged as a crime, is it really considered fraud at all? Cuckold is 100% accurate.
Knock it off!
I’m also not a fan of the widespread misuse of “socialism”, “communism”, “fascism”, and to a lesser degree “capitalism”. Very few people are using ANY of these words properly, let alone all of them. It proves the tragically deplorable state of western education and keeps people fighting over nonsense while the real problem never gets properly addressed. “Which is the way he wants. Yeah. “Gay” has run arguably the second widest gamut only behind “shit”, in my time. So i’m curious if your experience matches mine.
My elders and peers were using “gay” to describe homosexuality for long enough that it surprised me that it originally meant “happy”. In my youth, it was twisted further to be a synonym for the slang use of “lame”. Which, more often than not, just meant unkool. This, of course under our new “politically correct” guidelines, was considered offensive. Though not by any of my gay friends and acquaintances at the time. So that usage both came and went in my time.
It seems that homosexuals are still quite comfortable with “gay”, but i mostly only use it to describe flamboyant gays. In my mind, that’s how the word was originally stretched to fit that context. Flamboyant gays do seem to be oddly cheerful a lot of the time. But i miss them. The new mean gays are funny though. Ell oh ell!
So which meaning are you referring to?
