If you don't listen to it, is it a turn off? Is it interesting?
And if you do, is it a must have?
Not that I would change my taste of music for a girl, but I'm interested in the answer.
Okay rant ahead, watch out lol
I mean to each is own. I don't like metal, personally.
I doubt I'd ever be with a guy who is seriously into metal. No offense, but in my experience a lot of guys like that are music snobs who look down on a lot of music I like and think their two scents is actually worth sh*t when someone expresses their love for, let's say, pop music or rap or something conventional. I love pop, britney spears, miley Cyrus, etc. The reality that I see around me is that cliques Live on long past high school. Most metal heads are going to think I'm too materialistic, too preppy, a bit elitist, etc. And that's fine with me. I think half the time they look like dirty children with piercing and tattoos coming out of their a**holes. It's all good to me, though. Now, I don't know what it is, maybe it's because I remind them of people who bullied them in high school and haunt their f***ing dreams and sh*t, I don't know. For whatever reason, these types of people always test my patience. Last weekend some metal, punk looking girl on the subway started mimicking my friend and said something like "like omg, becky, this is like so totally horrible." I just made a jerk-off motion with my hand in the air until she made eye contact with me and said "bitch, blow me." I don't even have the patience to be cordial with people like that anymore. I have a short fuse as it is.
SO it's not that I personally mind if a guy likes a certain type of music. I don't care as long as you respect my right to like whatever I like. The problem is that some people who love love love music on that side of the spectrum - metal, punk, etc.- tend to give me attitude because they don't like my image or the music I like. The problem is that we have strong cliques in society and a lot of people don't like me because they're part of that group or whatever. I mean I know we all do fall into different groups inevitably, so it's no surprise. Still, you don't have to open your mouth to insult my friends or me. I can't make any sweeping statements about how all people everywhere are. I'm just saying in my experience it has been an issue, getting along with people who fit a persona that is very metal or punk, things of that nature.
If you don't disrespect me, then we Are totally fine and I'll be the sweetest girl ever to you, my extremely bubbly, perky side will come out. However, if you want to take this back to f***ing grade school and show your ass, then you get the bitch. Simple.
Aside from that, I couldn't care less. Some guys who are into that stuff are freakin sexy, I'm not gonna lie. Lol And if you really are anti-establishment and sh*t (not that all people who like that kind of music are) and you can have an intelligent conversation about politics and economics and society, even if we disagree, I might fall in love with you. That usually isn't the case, I'm afraid. Whatever started off as Serious subculture in the 60s is now a bunch of immature kids drunk off their asses who can hardly identify who "the man" is.
Soo, when I was younger I occasionally listened to alternative type pop-esk music like paramore, sleeping with sirens, you get the deal.
I do think it depends on the person and their taste all together.
Anyway, I forgot about it for a bit as I got older and listened to what my friends did which was rap and then my sister got into edm so I did as well.
Then I met my boyfriend. Oh boy, complete metal head. I appreciate him though because although he prefers metal, he also likes many other genres, and man does he love his pink, lol.
So I started getting into it, as I got older I already started liking mostly all genres (country, rap, metal, alternative, so on and so on), yet the real metal shit I can’t FULLY get in to.
He blasts his music in the car and I can’t quite stand it ALL the time but I know he likes it and id be mad if he constantly told me to turn it off so I let him enjoy it because I want him to do the same for me, as he does.
Now, I’m mostly into the scream sing action because I love my dance Gavin dance, issues, all them dreamy boys, lol. It’s always fun to go out of your comfort zone and enjoy some new music.
Sorry it was so long!! I just hope people can gain new perspectives on music like I was able to!! Thanks for asking!!
I somewhat listen to it. I listened a lot more to metal in high school. But if a guy listened to it, it wouldn't bug me at all.
I personally like all sorts of different types of music. From Lady Gaga, Fleetwood Mac, Disturbed, Rihanna, Daft Punk, there are so many to list...
A guy's music taste is not a turn off. It's a turn off when a guy starts dictating, criticizing and ridiculing me for liking Lady Gaga :P Everyone has their own tastes and to each their own.
Is it okay if I say my opinion, I made many experiences with that topic. ( hear that kinda stuff too )
My first point is the attitude. If you judge other people by saying ' Everyone who doesn't hear this is a mainstream f***er ' , girls will not be attracted by you being different from everyone else. They will see you as a creep who thinks he's better then everyone else. Which is the truth.
Second is the way you life it. Do you only wear band shirts and stuff? Well, I got a few ones too. But don't over do it and keep your interest as something personal, not something you rub in before anyone would get to know you. I don't mean you got to hide it or something.
I like all types of music, but I personally prefer rock and metal, because it has deep roots coming from classical and jazz backgrounds. Lots of intricate guitar harmonies and melodies make up most of rock. The problem with today's pop scene, is that it is all recycled, why do you think all these artists can do remix of ten hit songs and they all mash together? Because their all written in the same key or have the same chord progressions, and its over and over. That's why I am not fond of pop music. I'm not gonna even talk about rap, because that another whole rant...

I don't really listen to metal, but some of the songs I've heard I thought were good (like the second song you just posted). I don't mind if a guy likes metal, and yeah, I'd say it's interesting. The only thing I wouldn't like is if he's one of those people that hates on all other types of music.
Mhh.. I don't know if its a problem in the genre in general..I have this problem myself.
I like nearly all music that is just well played. So I also don't have problems with a lot of classical stuff, even if its not my real taste of music. But then these stuff like a lot of rap songs.. a lot og pop songs.. I try to respect it when people listens to this (pop is OK, but when its rap I have a real problem) but sometimes its hard to handle it..
Haha, well I can understand that. What I mean is, it just gets annoying if someone constantly tells you how much your music sucks lol, just because it's different from what they like. I don't like all metal music, and I wouldn't expect someone to like all of the music I listen to, but to each their own, y'know? That's just the way I look at it, and I don't go out of my way to criticize other peoples' taste in music (not saying you do, just that some people do).
Yep, some guysjust have to understand that people have different priorities in music. Some just want to calm down with some beats and listen to techno then.. Others set store on lyrics which help them in some situations, or just lyrics that supports their opinion. And still others just seem to like the little hamster on stage o.o
Yeah, exactly, and different music speaks to different people. We're not all the same, so it follows that our taste in music is going to vary too. :)
I loooove metal, and I definitely prefer the guy to listen to it too. If the guys really obnoxious about it (like saying any other music I listen to sucks, thinks their favorite bands the best, etcetc), that's really annoying and a turn off. But if they can suggest more music to me, all the better :)
It makes me think they are a little immature and maybe violent toward animals and fragile people. Not sure why, but that's what goes through my mind.
I can't stand it when anyone listens to that really loud when they have their pet in the room or car.
I call it Devil Worshipping Music.
I do like old Metalica though.
this is so stupid! no one who listens to metal worships the devil, harms animals, or is angry or anything like that. Anyone regardless of the type of music they listen to can do all of that. And there actually was a study based on the types of music people listen to that put people who listen to metal, ahead in intelligence, over people who listen to hiphop, rap,r&b, pop, techno, and indie. So theyre not immature either. Those are stereotypes you see in movies and tv.
Yep, listened to your links...still hate it. I was working on a house remodel that was behind another house that played this sh*t really loud ALL DAY AND NIGHT! And the dogs that were in their house were barking - probably trying to get out. Still consider it Devil Worshipping Music. They always play this music on movies and shows that show the underbelly of society. Just saying...
Whatever, you asked a question, I answered. I don't like metal music so get over it. I probably wouldn't date a guy that listened to it all the time. The music just seems so stressful and angry. It doesn't make me feel good.
OK to listen to loud music, as long as there's not kids and pets that have to be subjected it to it.
Im OK with opinions, yes, but you didn't just answer the question, you did a bit more.
And of course its not OK to do this to animals, but it has nothing to do with metal? You can stress them with every kind of music, I doubt that they can recognize a difference.
And I don't want to offend you, but you appeal pretty stressed even without music.
No offense taken. JustLovely2009 - You can not state that NO ONE that listens to metal harms animals, is angry or worships the devil. Some may. I just call it Devil Worshipping music, I didn't say that metal listeners worship the devil - but there may be some that do.
Zetty - You should rag on Anonymous User above that said "OK rant ahead, watch out Lol". THAT is a stressed individual.
I just got sick of it after hearing it all day, volume cranked, when doing that remodel.
@justlovely2009 "Smart people love metal." That's such a short-sighted statement though. (And so is "Hot-headed angry mean-spirited cruel people love metal." It's like Eric Harris is the poster boy of metalheads.) Cuz I know lots of smart people who don't like metal. But rather indie, rock, electronic and maybe, classic rock for the older ones. You know, the more creative music type. Music does have to do with intelligence and maturity a little bit. That's for sure. I know a guy who loves rap that is quite clever. I like R&B, rock and indie and I was extremely good at math as a child. Let's say I started doing polynomial in 5th grade (age 10). And pop isn't all bad. Carly Rae Jepsen is good. Nick Jonas and DNCE are good. Even One Direction, Taylor Swift. and Justin Bieber have some good songs like Perfect, History, Blank Space, Style, Sorry and his r&b stuff. Honestly, if you hates pop, you just seem like a bandwagon hipster, elitist wannabe poser to me. And that's a turn off.
I read a study too. It said that people who love metal usually feel like the outsiders. And smart people usually feel like the outsiders because their opinions, most of the times, aren't the same with the majority of people as most people aren't very smart. And these people would often hate on them as they can't stand a different opinion. It's like an insult to them. But metal isn't exactly a creative type of music unless you're talking about the more melodic ones like Deafheaven, Pantera. Me, personally, I hated rap as a child. And the second type of music that I liked the least is heavy metal unless I was playing a video game. I felt like they all sound the same. But now that I've listened to more of these types of music, I like some of them a lot.
The 1975 and The Twenty-One Pilot are pop / rock and are popular bands. Just because something is popular doesn't mean that it's bad. Although lots of shitty things appeal to the lowest common denominator. And most pop music these days has some electronic or r&b or rock in them. Some rock music is a bit boring like Muse's Hyteria and Uprising. Nickelback... boring as shit.
*Twenty One Pilots*
I listen to all kinds of metal and rock , dubstep/ electronic and alternative/ indie music, guys that like metal is a slight turn on and also a bonus because they will have good songs on their itunes that I can copy :P
I love it when guys listen to metal! Its a huge turn on for me. I listen to it as well so its nice to have someone to relate to. As far as not dateing someone who listens to it, there are a few different types of music I'd be definantly OK with, but if your rockin out to lady gaga I'd be a little turned off
Where have you been all my life?
\m/
I am more of a indie person...i really don't like metal unless I am hyper and pissed off.
I don't listen to it regularly...
I wouldn't be turned off by a guy who listened to it.
Guys who listen to metal are a real turn on for me, because I listen to it too. Also if we share the same music taste we can go to gigs together, something I can't do with my friends right now.
Personally I listen to metal.. My boyfriend doesn't..
He turned the CD player on in my car the other day and it started screaming, loudly. I think he was a little scared.. xD
not a fan of metal.. never have been.. as far as guys go that like it.. as long as the music doesn't make them an angry person I'd be OK with it.
It's not what I'm into, but some of my best friends listen to it and I'm not going to judge someone based on their music tastes.
Erm .. Used to listen to metal. But now I'm more into rock, indie and R'n'B. But guys who are into metal don't really turn me on, kinda scares me :P
Probably, there are some idiots who put their favorite bands on the T-Shirt. No offence to anyone who does that ;\
I don't listen to metal. It's not really a turn on or a turn off if a guys does.
meh
