What do guys think of girls who listen to heavy metal?

I guess I'm a metal head, but most people can never tell because I look completely normal, aside from the band shirts. But whenever a guy takes any interest in me and eventually asks me what music I like, I unashamedly tell them I like heavy metal. Most guys seem intimidated by this for some reason. Why? It's not like that makes me a different person; I just have different taste in music than they do.

Why do all girls that like metal feel ashamed about it, when they should actually be proud? I know guys are intimidated by this, maybe because they get scared, imagining that "oh, that metal chick...she might kill me in my sleep, drink my blood and sacrifice my soul for Satan". Girl, try to find guys that like metal. But I'm talking real metalheads here, not posers. I don't even know why you bother with non-metalheads guys. I've been a metalhead for 18 years now, and I wouldn't get in a relationship with a girl that doesn't like metal, I wouldn't get in a relationship with a girl that doesn't BREATHS metal. Liking is one thing, understanding and accepting and embracing it with all its idelogy, is another thing. And not because I think less of girls that don't like metal, which someone might think, but just because I think that I couldn't communicate with a non-metal girl at the same level I would with a metalhead girl. It's another degree of bonding. And another thing - girls that actually like and live metal, they're scared, and avoid, dressing metal. Why the hell? I know that society casts a big "no-no" over that outfit, but to hell with it. If you like it, wear it. Wear whatever you like, don't avoid it just because people might look funny at you.

Wow this sounds like me. I listen to heavy,death, black, etc. People are always surprised when I tell them that b.c I dress "normal". Never understood why my outfit should be an indication of what genre of music I like. I just dress in jeans and t-shirt. I could careless if it has a design from a band.

I know what you mean, but what generally annoys me the most is that after I told them I like heavy metal they assume I'm satanic or some sh*t like that.

yea exactly. people like to stereotype and think your insane or have mental issues for listening to such music.

See, I listen to classic rock myself- Rolling Stones, The Who, AC/DC, etc. I've never had a guy get intimidated but even if he did, I'd tell him to kiss my ass.

I suggest you do the same ;). If they don't get it, forget em.

My boyfriend is a metal head. He was shocked recently when I showed him some songs from a heavy metal band that he didn't know. He didn't think I'd actually start listening to one that he hadn't shown me.

Its probably because the general idea of someone who listens to metal is usually, black, piercing, drama, and weird in general, now that's just an instant generalization, I personally feel the same way when a girl tells me that, but it just for a minute, I would forget about it after that like you never told me.

Everybody has that instant reaction to something he hears or sees, that's just who we are, but I never judge the person past that 1-2 minutes after I absorbed it, cause judging and generalization in general is my worst enemy (and humidity:P).

A metal head girl, looks like a non-conformist to me. Someone who doesn't give a sh*t about this conventional beauty stuffs and refuse to buy 'em. A strong independent girl :)

Well I guess its the musical lyrics that rub off on a person. If you ever have the opportunity to listen to the heavier genre you'd notice that a lot of bands are very against 'going with the flow'. They're all about being independent and rebelling against the ordinary by rather opting for being different, and that's why I like it. Thanks for your insightful answer, I appreciate it (:
