If you were aware of it or not, who would you rather come across in the woods?

As a man myself, I wouldn’t blame a woman for choosing the bear. Humans are scary, and a bear is very statistically unlikely to harm you — or at least in a North American forest.

Asian bears (namely moon bears and sloth bears) are far more violent, stemming from coexisting with tigers.

Someone else already asked this question, and I'll give the same answer here as I did there; I'd rather encounter a man. It really puzzles me that so many are saying "bear". Bears are really fast. Can you outrun one? Nope. You might be able to outrun a man if you're a fast runner, but not a bear. If the bear is a recent mother, and has her cubs nearby, she'll attack you for sure. You could bluff your way out of an encounter with a dangerous man, if it came to that. Not so with a bear.

The reason this trend is going around is because men asked the question based off of survivability, and they’re not wrong. A person is much more likely to survive an attack by a man than a bear. But what men don’t tend to understand by hearing the “bear” answer is that no one cares when there’s a strange bear in the woods, it’s supposed to be there. That’s its home. But finding a strange man in the woods? That’s dangerous, that man will do things to you that a bear never would.

I edited my post to clarify that I’m not outraged by a woman’s choosing of a bear over a man, and that a bear is immensely unlikely to harm a person.

But what about if it’s a hiking trail area in the woods?

If it’s on a public hiking trail, the man would do bad things ***in the worst case scenario.***

I’m not trying to be confrontational. Just saying that it won’t automatically happen, even if I’d agree in your position that a bear would be preferential. (If it’s a completely random, secluded part of the woods and you find a man, then I’d definitely be more concerned.)

Women need to treat strange man the same way you would a gun at a range — even if it’s not loaded, you have to act like it is and be safe.

I think for a lot of women, it’s been programmed that any man alone in the woods is out for ill intentions.
I’ve come across bears in the woods while hiking. Granted I was with others but naturally, bears belong there and we kept our distance and have been fortunate enough to not come across situations where we had to defend ourselves.
Running into a random dude in the woods can be alarming but not enough to cause suspicion unless they start doing suspicious things.

if I really had to break it down, most women pick the bear in hopes that they can do whatever they can to avoid and protect themselves. Humans are deprived individuals and we don’t always think of good things about others. We want to be sure we can protect and defend if in that situation and most women believe their life is most likely in harms way if they run into another human than a bear.

I saw this question a week ago, I answered "man" but this changed my perspective. So I choose the bear.

Even men don't trust men to be alone with their daughters/loved ones. That alone, is the answer.

I mean… when I lived in Alaska I was around bears quite a bit. We carried bear spray with us and they never really bothered us… But then I remember how scared I was when I was outside at night and one was in front of my garage, pretty damn close to me… I literally ran to my door which they tell us not to do, lmao. I’ve never felt fear like that ever in my life… So I’m going to say man. I’d be on guard but never as shocked/terrified as I was that night with the bear 😅

Bears usually avoid people. if you come across one, more than likely it will run away. However, if you are alone in the woods with a strange man, the outcome of such an encounter is a complete unknown. Far more unsafe.
