There is high quality and delicious food in America.
What about New England seafood, BBQ, Southern fried chicken, quality hamburgers, and Thanksgiving-style meals that feature ingredients that are indigenous to the Americas like turkey, cranberries, pumpkin, squash, green beans, corn (maize), potatoes, and pecans.
Squash, peppers, wild rice, avocados, tomatoes, maple syrup, and many beans like pintos, navy beans, black beans, Anasazi beans, lima beans and kidney beans are also indigenous to the Americas.
Through cross breeding, Americans have created new, delicious varieties of fruit.
American pies with their flaky crusts are unique.
Corn bread.
Biscuits and gravy.
Varieties of chili.
Baked beans.
Americans know how to grill an amazing steak.
And there is American-stye bacon.
But American food is influenced by many cultures because America is a land of immigrants. So, over time, interesting fusions like Tex-Mex, creole and cajun have become uniquely American. And don't forget hot dogs and deli sandwiches. Americans have also incorporated spices and seasonings from around the world to create unique dishes.25 Reply- 1 y
Except for most of the seafood, I'm with you! When I worked at a big company and we had food catered in for those working holidays, a gal (from the South) there thought I was from the South since I like honey and sausage gravy on my biscuits. "Nope I just like 'em." Now I make my own sausage and biscuits- just still have to let the bees do the honey thing, though. And my kids moved to the South. Bless their hearts!

@Massageman Unless he's PETE Rose, MLB's Hit King (4,256) who'd be in the Hall Of Fame were it not for his gambling on the Cincinnati Reds when he managed the team in violation of Organized Baseball's century-plus old prohibition of betting baseball, let alone on your own team.

1 yAmerican fast food is bad.
American food itself, is amazing.
A proper east coast clambake. A well aged steak, seared well, from Texas or California is mouthwatering. Venison from New England, a Philly Chessesteak sandwich, Oysters from the Pacific Northwest. Wisconsin cheese. BBQ which varies from region to region. TexMex food which is NOT just Mexican food but it’s own whole cuisine. San Francisco Sourdough (Boudin is the best, to me), and let’s not pretend a McDonalds burger is the same thing as a quality made, freshly ground beef cheeseburger on that-day-made buns. Ruth’s Chris steaks are not the same thing as a Sizzler steak.
The broad and varied menu developed from the African-American experience. A uniquely American Thanksgiving feast is a thing to behold as is the dozens of ways we cook up beef, salmon, and poultry in the US. You have not lived until you have had a proper, fresh apple pie.
Plus, as a multicultural melting pot, even many of the ethnic foods here are tweaked and added to by proud immigrants who used their creativity and a variety of available ingredients to expand and develop their menus.
I can agree that on its surface American food (easily mistaken for fast food since it’s so plentiful) is not impressive but true American food is delicious.20 Reply

1 yCapitalism, make it as cheap as possible, as quick as you can and don't worry about quality. Consumers will go for the $1 factory cheese over the $10 real one 99% of the time.
If you look at exported American food it's always the mass produced crap and never the good stuff, things like macdonalds. Even if you go to a proper American restaurant in the UK it's 99% tacky marketing and mediocre food.21 Reply
2.2K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. It's not bad if it's not industrially processed food. Home made US foods with high quality ingredients taste good. Of course food from MCD, KFC or BK isn't good but I don't take it as representation of American cuisine. Industrially made Chinese Spring rolls don't taste good either, would you declare Chinese cuisine as bad just because those rolls?

Hanging out here on Girls Ask Guys, I've realized it's a great spot to dish on all things culinary, and this question is a spicy one for sure! So, about American food being labeled as 'bad', I think it's more about perception than reality. American cuisine often gets a rep for being fast food heaven, with big portions and lots of sugar. But hey, it's also the land of incredible BBQ, diverse food truck scenes, and farm-to-table movements that celebrate fresh, local ingredients. I've had some meals in the States that could rival the best Italian trattoria or Japanese izakaya. It's all about where you go and what you choose to eat. 🍔🥗 Remember, every pot has its lid, or in food terms, every cuisine has its gems!

1 yThere are some good food like kinds of pies, bbq and such. Less and less people eat healthy and traditional dishes. Many more eat the junk, and it became the mainstream. Fatty and processed food, with less veggies now.
Also, even the restaurants of other traditional cuisines make the food less authentic and less good, for example Olive Garden's Itslian food. Many restaurants change the recipes for the mainstream people, like adding bacon, butter and cheese to a lot unnecessary things.

Take italy’s authentic THIN hardly any cheese pizzia. While America has many options with thick crusts and even stuffed with cheese.
We hav bad foods but we are not the fattest country in the world 😘00 Reply4.6K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. Not all of it is bad. There just seems to be an unequal amount of junk food that is being consumed. Foods that are high in fat, sugar and salt are being pushed on the public and the American lifestyle is partly to blame. People are too busy to sit and eat a meal or prepare a meal and often get takeout or eat while they are in the car.

1 yBecause the feds subsidize high fructose corn syrup, which they encourage by farm subsidies, is in EVERYTHING ALONG WITH ADDED SUGAR 10X WHAT A HUMAN NEEDS AND AMERICANS THINK EXERCISE IS GOING FROM THE COUCH TO THE GOD DAMN BATHROOM!! Thanks for coming to my TeD talk.
Real American food is fresh, natural and nutritious. Most Americans think a spice rack is a kitchen decoration. Sorry, you hit a nerve here cuz I was raised on GARBAGE and now I know better!!

1 ySo the thing is if you want to feed a LOT of people, the quality is gonna suffer. can't have both quantity and quality. you can definitely get good food in america but it will cost you a pretty penny. like you could have good food in america but you'd have to spend a significantly bigger portion of your income and i guess there's enough other interesting things to spend your money on xD

1 yYeah, our food is so bad, and their food is really bad so bad they are looking to switch to bugs for their protein. Bugs are cheaper than steaks and chops. Their steaks and chop are so tough you can use them for replacement soles on your shoes and not wear them out for years. If you do not like the food here then don't eat it. Military MREs taste a lot better than a lot of European food.
10 ReplyProbably because you are poor and ignorant. If you had a little brain power and some money, you'd be able to find all kinds of good food in the USA. Sucks to be you.

1 yFirst American food is very regional and also borrowed from other cultures. We all don't eat fast food and microwave dinners lol. What's your experience with American food? We do have a lot of crap so I'm not arguing by any means either.

Anonymous(25-29)1 yI like to think that it has something to do with America's rebellious history. How I describe a typical American food is basically a European food that has more of what made it taste good which can be unhealthy. Or an unorthodox/bastardized version of another country's food. Because America is made from revolution, counterculture is very popular in America.

Opinion Owner1 yLike for example, pizza. The real Italian pizza has a higher quality cheese and more expensive cheese which is why they don't put a lot compared to American Pizza. But since America likes cheese, theyd use processed cheese because it's cheaper so they can put a lot of it.
