The majority of commercial bread in the USA, especially sandwich bread, is like eating junk food. The flours used have been bleached of their nutrients and processed to the point of being worthless and nothing but empty calories. Don't be fooled by the words "whole wheat" either; that can still be processed beyond any value. Some commercial producers now make a better product, but preservatives are still used.

Meats are generally a disaster in the USA unless you're buying locally and know the source, process and manner of raising. There are cancer causing, nerve damaging agents still allowed here in the states, particularly in processed lunch meats, that have been long banned by sensible countries elsewhere in the world. The USA is also one of the only countries in the world where eggs need to be refrigerated because they're washed to help prevent salmonella. Even so, there are roughly 400 cases of illness or death PER DAY in the US related to salmonella.

Illness is big, BIG business in the USA, so keeping the food source on the unhealthy side for the general population, and feeding us misinformation, perpetuates the health "care" industry. There's hardly any money in the "preventative health care" industry by comparison.

It's true about fast food. But that same crap is sold in almost every country. I don't eat it, myself.

When it comes to American bread, it depends what kind. A lot of commercially produced crap that is sold on grocery store shelves is full of preservatives. It's like the McDonald's of bread. But there is really good bread around if you know where to get it.

One nice thing about America is, there are immigrants from all over the world who bring their tradition to making wonderful food. And a lot of American artisans are influenced by traditions from around the world.

And America is a big place with lots of culinary traditions based on fruit, meat and vegetables that are common to different regions. So it can't be said that America has disgusting food. It has some of the richest, most delicious varieties in the world.

I think people who lack vegetables have faulty hormones that do not send signals to the brain properly about which foods the person should eat. They did an experiment with very young children by giving them a buffet of any food they desired and after two weeks all the kids chose healthy food like pears and plums over junk food like gummy bears or ice cream. When your hormones are compromised, your brain does not understand that an apple is better than a bowl of pretzels.

Some food is, but most of it isn't. A lot of people from other countries tend to find our bread, candy, and desserts too sweet since they're not used to lots of sugar being used. Fast food it depends on where it's from. For me taco meat is gross and too greasy, so I never get it.

I'm American and I agree with you 150%. It is the most disgusting fake crap that we have out there and everything is becoming more and more faker and costing more money it's ridiculous I cook my own food and I cook real food there are so many products out there now that are genetically made that are not even real..

If everybody would stop eating fast foods everybody would become healthier and wouldn't end up in the hospital when they get older... If it comes in a cardboard box or if it comes in a can most of the time it's cancer-causing man-made products..

And then even our real food has so many antibiotics and chemicals in their food that we get it in that product too it's time to become a farmer and grow our own food again our own cows our own chickens that's the only way we're going to stay healthy because our government the FDA has other plans they don't give a fuck

cause it's a lot more processed and unnatural than the same foods from other parts of the world. also there's so much more sugar added so it tastes too sugary. American industrial bread often tastes like brioche almosts, and American chocolate/candy/sweets are wayyyy too sugary

america has a god...$. we worship low cost, high volume... well pollute hell and high water to get it and genetically manipulate the seed and feed it with chemicals to get it.

America produces good food, San Francisco for example is well known for bread. The problem is most Americans aren't prepared to pay a few cents more for quality, they want mass produced cheap food.

That's a broad generalization. American food is extremely diverse. Though I agree some American food is just nasty. Americans for some odd reason love to mix foods that don't belong together. I think the gross food combos came about because Americans love to be innovative, and inventing a new dish by mixing two foods is easy. I think it also stems from college culture. A lot of students are poor, so they just make a meal out of whatever they have, and after a while it catches on.
