I need some female insight. Why do some females (you, or other you know) HATE this word so much? Please give some detail so we can understand why.

Um, once again I'm completely and totally perplexed, at the way a woman's mind works.

And, I am a woman! Serisously, what's the big deal about being called babe? Since I've

been on here, I've been called, babe, baby, babycakes,baby doll, babykins, star babe and

last year some a guy at the mall working for the salvation army, said to me "Santa's gonna be

real good to you, baby girl". And, I find it all very sweet, they're not trying to be mean or

insluting, it's just a endearing term. I see nothing wrong with it. I personally like nicknames,

so I don't mind it, as long as you don't call me something degrading or disrespectful, I have

no problems with being called babe or anyother sweet nickname someone wants to call me. : )

I really dislike being called babe.

It makes me feel like I'm the umpteenth girl he's called that way, and I don't like that ^^'

It's way too common and not personal at all ! I'd much rather have a fun and personal nickname, and it's even better if it's a shared joke between us =]

My ex used to call me Charmotte, which is a mix between chat and marmotte in French (cat and woodchuck in English). He called me that way because he was amazed by my ability to sleep for an extended period, and the fact that I made some kind of purring noise when we cuddled =]

I keep that as a very happy memory, and it still gives me a warm feeling when I think about it. I don't think it would be the same with babe :)

I don't have a problem with it if I like the guy saying it. If I do have a problem with it, its usually a guy I don't know who comes off sleazy. With those guys it just bothers me because  I can sense him getting too familiar with me too soon and he gives off jerky vibes (f*** em and chuck em type).  It's not the actual term because most of the time I take no issue with it, but the type of guy who might use it.  5 guys could say it and I'd have no problem with it, but then that one Quagmire type guy uses it and I'm just disgusted

At least, that's the Nostalgia Chick's argument. Of course, she's the same girl who hates on Chuck Norris just because he doesn't want to see America continue to be a moral sewer. So I don't know how trustworthy her reasoning really is.

Well I can tell you why I hate using it, they arn't babies, and it is weird to express sexual attraction by calling someone a baby, as in the same word for a human infant.

I just don't like many generic pet names. The only ones I can take are 'chick' and 'hun' of one of my friends who just uses them all the time. I've guess I've grown used to it.

If you're going to call me by something that's not my name; put some thought into it - or just stick with Heather.

I grew up with the word "babe." That's what my grandpa has always called my grandma. I don't know why some girls don't like it, and actually didn't realize it until you pointed it out. If a guy who I just met called me that it might be weird, just because it seems like a casual and familiar term. But if a boyfriend or guy friend called me that, I wouldn't care... but I'd probably most prefer it coming from a boyfriend. I've never been called "babe" from a guy friend, unless it was said in a joking or teasing kind of tone.

I used to hate it immensely because my biological father always calls his girlfriend babe, and he used to call me babe too and it disturbed me.

Most girls hate it because it's so common.

Once me and my husband were married, I no longer hated it because I knew I was the only girl he called babe.

Girls hate it because we tend to think "great I'm just another fling", just like calling your wife your "old lady" it can offend some.

It sounds overly casual. Like you don't care. Like you can't remember my name or like it doesn't matter enough to be used. I kind of like it when my boyfriend calls me "baby", but only because he says it endearingly and sweetly.

There isn't really an endearing way to say "babe". It's so abrupt, it's almost rude.

When it's a guy I just met, I don't need any nicknames, so every nickname is a turn off.

Maybe it's because "babe" seems like they only see us like "a piece of meat that's hot".

Like with "hot" and "beautiful". Same goes with "babe" and "sweetheart".

I use "babe" for my friends, I don't mind it when my friends call me babe, just not someone I just met.

It's like you can't remember my name so you call me babe because of your lack of memory. It's kinda derogatory and condescending a lot of times. Like when you are having a conversation with someone and in the middle they say oh your cute its like condescending same with babe. Just don't use it ick! Call us by our names

from my boyfriend, "babe" is alright, though maybe a bit plain and sounds a bit like you're objectifying me. From a guy friend, it's confusing. I have one guy friend who calls me "babe" or "love" only when he's quite tipsy, and it's very confusing for me. If it's from someone I don't know, it's just rude (because it sounds like he's objectifying me).

I actually like the word babe (not baby or bb) and I don’t mind it when the familiarity is there. But I hate when a guy I just started dating starts texting things like BB or baby, or if the call me any of those monikers too soon. It sounds juvenile and it just makes you feel like they are trying to push the sweet talk for their agenda or put you into the hole that the last “babe” they knew filled. It’s very impersonal and feels skeevy.
